Adding a cu. ft. to my box

Recommended Posts

I am running (2) of the 12SSD's in a ported box at right about 4 cu. ft. net and its tuned to about 32 hz. power is rated Zapco 1000W

if I can get another cu. ft. What can i expect in the characteristic of the box? More efficent? more boomy? I do not want to make it sloppy, it's already ported which is a trade off for me to begin with.

Or I might consider the max sized sealed box. How would you compair that to my existing ported box?

thanks

are you happy with the output currently? you would gain efficiency increasing net volume. would also effectively lower tune if port stayed the same.

honestly with the power you have if im reading it correctly, id say its a good move. adding 1 cube total right? so .5 per each puts you at the big end of the spec, but still with less than rms power handling.

i think its a step i would go for myself. my biased opinion though

Also note if you don't change the port, the box will ultimately loose some of it's peakiness as well... which could sound/feel quieter, but the box will be more efficient across the board.

thanks for the replys.

Yes I am happy with the loudness.

You are correct I am cosidering just adding to the volume with the same port.

I do know that 1000w is a little on the soft side as far as power. It does have the potential to do almost 1400w max judgeing by the 90A of fuse and the car running at 15.2V (thanks Chris @ MLA)

Here is my delema, My wife remembers my old VW bug in 1994 that had (2) Pyle 15's in a sealed box with a Linear Power 1001 (200watts mono) on each woofer. It had a lot of "impact" She keeps reminding me how Tool - Undertow album use to sound. I have not be able to match that yet and my equipment is aton better than it was then. Most people say "it was a bug, thats why"

My current ported box in my bird is a little soft, all though its loud and plays a tone really nice. I have considered doing the largest sealed box I can do on them, hopefully to pick up some impact. Which in my mind could "fell" louder to a person. I listen to a lot of heavy rock and double bass is muddy IMO.

lets hear your thoughts.

heres the box - its sealed off from the trunk.

You reminded me of my last system many years ago with 4 M&M Godfather 15's and a Linear Power 3002 at 2ohms stereo so about 150 watts per woofer. One morning I got into the car and turned it on and forgot I had Rush - Tom Sawyer in the CD Player at about 3/4 volume. It about made me chit my pants so I know what you mean about "impact" :)
