which component set is better?

Recommended Posts

Right now am looking at using a pair of components up front and a pair of coaxial in the back (Ext. Cab Dodge Dakota). So my question is which setup would be best for sound quality:

1) Audioque AQG-6.5 Component Set and Focal Access 165 CA1 = $350.00 total

2) Focal 165 A1 Component Set and Focal Access 165 CA1 = $450 total

3) JL Audio TR650-CSi Component Set and JL Audio C2-650x = $400 total

This is what i came up with, just need to know which set these would do the job. I also have the power to use any setup.

Why are you worried about the co-ax in the rear? I would save the money and ditch the rears and put the money into a superior front set of components, or go with a very nice DIY set of tweets and mids along with a quality 4 channel that you can run active. That would be a real step in the right direction for great sound quality in your install. :)

You could build a kick ass active setup for that price, if not i like the DLS components a lot, a set of UP6i's would most likely make you very happy.

I don't know much about the AQ's, the focals tend to be a bit bright and up front for my tastes, and the JL's sound pretty good but were even more laid back. I think the DLS is the perfect blend of the two. You should take a look at the Mpyre sets being blown out on ebay for 99 bucks with xovers. If you can get a nice low playing tweeter they would make for a great setup with some killer midbass

I do need my rears for added vocals and clearity. When i lean back in my seat, my ears are closer to my rears and i feel they do aid in producing desent vocals for this application. I was just wanting to find out what setup would be best, but it seems i need to look at different options for a good stage. Any other suggestions out there?

yea, ditch the rears, you don't go to a rock concert and face away from the stage. You said SQ and therefore will get sq related responses.

Staging, Imaging etc... All require the soundstage to be as far in front of you as possible. Trust me I used to think I needed rears too until I got a chance to sit in a professionally built competition sq car. The audio ecstasy of sq in a proper set-up is better than drugs.

What's your budget, what kind of processing do you have, where do you want your tweets and mids.

Or are you just looking for better sound.

haha i couldnt help but picture a teenager doing the gangsta lean in their car tryna be all cool when i read that. in regards to that, why dont you sit up straight like a normal person and set your front stage up nicely? i second the DLS's...i like every set in their line that i've heard.

Actually he really doesn't have to sit up nicely, some people find slouching comfortable, a decent front stage will compensate for that, in several sq cars i've been in, you actually sit further back than you normally would, take Jeff's camaro for example.

They are already known for their very "lean back seating", and on top of that his seats slide back more than normal.

..i know some cars are like that, or its more comfortable for some people..but i was referring to people like my old roommate who used to practically be lying down in their seat while driving...

Well just so that its clear, i am a normal person but I drive a ext. cab dakota becuase i pay for college plus other bills and i cant get anything else till i graduate next year. Oh yea, am 6' 7" by the way, maybe just a few feet taller than you.lol so i cant sit straight up even if i wanted to. But i have a amp that runs 200 rms and if i get rid of the rears, then how do you guys suggest i set things up the front stage? I looked at the DLS components but would also like a few other opinions. I also looked at the Rainbow Soundline SLC 265 components, are these better than the JL Audio TR650-CSi Component. Thanks guys

I like the Rainbow's as well, I just think that the DLS are a little more forgiving when listening to recordings that are not the greatest, and mp3's. I am telling you, get a set of UP6i's up front and you will love them.
