I LOVE my highs......

Why not?

For a couple months I only ran speakers in trim pannels on my wall behind me, nothing in the doors. It sounded just fine.

In that case, why not put the sub in the dash?

Why? There is a reason our ears angle forward and we have elastic cartilage that also angles forward. We are designed to hear sounds from in front of us more than in the rear, you can thank evolution for that.

A subwoofer in the dash is a whole other story. There would not be enough space for the sound wave to generate.

You are comparing apples and oranges my friend.

Actually, people try to put subs in the front all the time, maybe not in the dash so much, simply because of space issues. Look at Alpine's Imprint demo car( the wine red mercedes) It has subs in the dash... after getting totally gutted of course. You do see subs in kicks, front floors, under dash as well. The ultimate goal is to have ALL the sound come from front, bass included.

Given you have space it works, yes the goal is to have everything i the front. Most people simply don't have space.

this thread is a waste of time, anyway as long as ayou are happy I suppose that is all that matters and no point going active if you are planning to go this route.

I am NOT looking to win any kind of SQ award. I want LOUD Clear music. It would be nice to have some balance in the Frequencies. So, that no one freq is alot louder then the rest.

In the old truck, I used different amp to do different things. I had a small 2 channel for tweeters HPF was up over 500 i think. I Then had an Eclipse amp 4 channel for the 4 REV 6x9"s, with the HPF on 100. I then had another 4 channel on the Kicker 6x9"s and 5 1/4"s. HPF on x9" was 100 and 125 on the 5 1/4"s. I really liked how loud it sounded and clear it was. Now I KNOW there are much better ways to achieve what i want.

I LOVE have the front and back both having speakers and about the same loudness. Or close to it.

hi there,

if loud clear music all around is your goal, with your highs that can catch up with your lows, then spkrs everywhere is alright. after all, the more the merrier rite? hahah

as for going active, if you're planning to use coaxial 6x9s all around, then active wont be needed as these coaxials already have a passive cross over in them.

But if for example, you are planning something like G-monks old setup ( i think he had a bunch of tweets and 6" and 8" around)

ahhh, then an active setup might be more interesting.

think of it this way, if lets say u have an external active 3 way xover, you can configure it such that, each driver will only play until a certain frequency range and then cut off. thus this spreads the freq spectrum over 3 types of drivers ( tweets, 6" and 8"), taking some load off each spkrs as each spkr only has to play some freqs.

Also, with the active cross over, you can choose which is the optimal freq for your driver to be playing, lets say tweets play ard 4khz, then ur 6" plays until from 4kz 200 hz, then the 8" plays until 200hz to 80hz.then then the sub plays the rest.

basically u have control over your spkrs.

as for subs in front and such,

in some of the demo cars, its just simply cool to have subs in places where is shouldnt be. i think i saw some pic of a car with 8w7s in the steering wheels!hahaa

but for some competition SQ setups, people BUILD the sub under the dash to achieve a super up front bass.

think of it as, in normal setups, the sub woofer is behind rite? but to get a good sound stage, the bass must sound like its coming from the front. so the tuner has to time align the dam woofer all the way to the front and it'll be a pain in the ass.

Now with a woofer in front, the bass is ALREADY in front, hahaha. so helps a lot with the imaging.

Anyway, hope this helps out!

Cheers!

I dont see why everyone is saying "NO! YOU MUST NOT HAVE SPEAKERS BEHIND YOU!".

If the guy likes the way it sounds, who cares? Do you build because of what most sound quality cars do? Or do you just build things the way that you like them? If you prefer all the sound in front of you, thats cool. Some of us like LOUD ass music, that only tons of mids and tweeters throughout the cabin can provide.

To the OP: Build it, build it how you want, and build it LOUD!

I don't think the evolution of my ears changes the way I enjoy listening to music in my vehicle. I didn't choose to evolve my own ears to listen that way.

go for pro/ home audio stuff ... horns,midrange,... if u like it screamin loud near your head ... and its cheaper

I want it to sounds decent as well. lol

No one seems to really be offering actual speakers.

I have a pair of 6.5" CDT ES-620. I love them. They produce good clean sound, and can get nice and loud. Woofersetc.com has a liquidation sale going on right now. My speakers are retail $839.99, and I managed to get em for $279 (though the site lists $349). I would recommend the ES-620Z for $399. The crossover setup has their Upstage technology. Had I not gotten such a good deal on the ES-620 set, I would have opted for the ES-620Z. I just run stock rear fills, I don't really care about rear fills. 12" Fi Q goes in this Thursday, I don't think I'll have any need for them. Just my two cents.

when you go to a concert do you turn your back to the stage and party on like that????????

I hate this analogy. Nobody goes to a concert for good sound, they go for the experience.

The acoustics at a concert are horrible. The artists sound like shit due to, well, physics and the fact that their voice box is over-stressed, shitty equipment, etc. . . .

DO I need to go on here?

If you've ever been to a concert, aside from the Eagles, you know you don't want your music to sound like it does when you're there.

If they were designed to allow us to hear in front of us wouldn't they be on the anterior surface of our bodies? So evolutionarily speaking our ears are on the sides of our heads so that we can hear to the back and the sides of us. Not mainly what is in front of us, we have eyes for that. The pinna is just a funnel to catch waves, where ever they may be from.

whell Ive been to some pretty good concerts, and ill pay you 100 dollars if you go to any clasical concert that sounds like chit.... im not talking about your local highschool band playing in the backyard concert, but any way as mentioned before ITS WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY . No one can tell you what sounds good and not you will have to decide for your self; all we can do is give advise based on personal exsperiences.

What model CDTs have you heard? Had always heard really good things about them, so I bought them when I saw the sale and I really like them. Granted, I wouldn't pay what they retail for, they aren't that good.

well i showed them around the wattage they said was ok and the cross overs seem to lower the tweeter at high volume.../ with more power.

low power was ok sound. but for what i needed to keep up with.. was not happping. i got the cl 65's if i recall correctly.

sorry to hear that, Im using the cl-62 with the silk tweeter think mt25 or something like that and never had such problems even when I bridged them. Actually now that I run them active they do make more power and sound way better.

Yeah, the CLs are just fine. Its certainly not their high end stuff, but I've heard good things about even those. I have some extra CL-62s I never used, I'm sending to a friend soon. We'll see how she likes em. Let me know how the active setup turns out. I thought about doing an active setup on my front stage CDTs with a SAX-100.4
