setup, what sub and amp should I get?!?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Like the title says, I'm getting a brand new setup on a new car, but i'm not too familiar with subs and amps. I stumbled upon this site (an awesome site by the way :slayer: ) and learned so much already!

So now I turn it over to your thoughts and opinions! Here's what I'm looking for.

I want a 12" sub in a sealed box.

I want a good amp that works very well with the sub.

I don't want to loose too much trunk space (need to fit my mountain bike in there.)

I've been leaning toward the rl-p after everything i've read, but I'm not sure if I should wait for that new D2. I would like to get the sub in a week or two.

I want something that sounds good and hits hard and low, but isn't too overpowering. Am I making sense???

What would be a good amp to power the rl-p?

Should I go with the 2ohm or 4ohm? Whats teh diference with this anyway?

Thanks for all the help!!!! :D:D

Ohm load is dependant on the amp

Makes no difference which impedance you choose

with one sub, and the corrosponding power required, impedence isn't going to be a big factor..except maybe for brand preference..

with wanting to run a smaller sealed enclosure, i'd agree the rl-p would be the choice to make (especially considering ur wanting a sub in aweek or two)..

i've got my rl-p in 1.25ft^3 sealed off a hifonics nemesis nx750d..and love it. and by u not wanting ur bass overpowering, i'd suggest power in the same range..750-800wrms..of course, u could get a bigger amp and just keep it set a lil lower...lol....

amp suggestions would contain the above mentioned hifonics, mtx makes a sweeet 800 watter...and i'm having a major brain fart :fart: lol....

i'll touch back in here later, when i can put thoughts together...lol...

ans welcome to SSA!!!!

We have no word as of yet when the New D2s are going to be out, but I can tell you they will be more impressive than the previous version(s).

from what I understand we could flip a coin on the RL-p and D2 and be very happy either way, its a win win choice,

just that the D2 is not finished quite yet but it will be soon :)

I believe that Sound Splinter is dropping the DVC2 ohm models for now, not sure

Thanks for all the help guys!!! And thanks for the welcome!

I was actually looking at an MTX amp. I heard they were pretty sweet! I'll have to check on the Hifonics as well.

Inserting a bit of ignorance here....if I get the 4ohm sub, should I get an amp that runs at 4ohms as well???

Thanks again!! :)

they are a dual voice subs, you would need an amp that does 2 ohms if the sub is dual 4

You can also run a pair of 4ohm dvc's in either 1ohm or 4ohm configuration.

Check out sounddomain's woofer wiring guide for other common wiring options.

SWEET!!!  You guys ROCK!!!

I compared the Hifonics and the MTX and I'm definately leaning toward the MTX.  You were right mrray13, MTX does make a sweet 800!!

Take a look and let me know what you think!

http://www.cardomain.com/shop/compare.pl?c...%3D14&x=19&y=15

Run it at the 2ohm and I'll be good to go!!!

Thanks again!!!

i love that thunder801...i know of one pushing a pair of thunder7512-4 mtx subs in an tahoe (used to be in an explorer..) quite a nice lil amp...

grab a dual 4 twelve and wang away! i think the mtx and the soundsplinter will make an awesome combo!
