which set-up should i go with?

Recommended Posts

I have a dilemma of which set-up to go with. I already have all the stuff, except batteries and maybe a high output alternator if I was to need one. I need the extra space in my trunk, 96 honda accord coupe, for battery/batteries/mid-range amp, and space for me to get to my spare tire. So I can only use about half the space for the box. I bought the two 12" SSD subs because it was a good deal but then right after I bought them, I also found a good deal on two 10" SSD subs. But here it is:

Two 12" SSD subs, bp option, copper coils, D2, with an IA20.1 amp at .5 ohm in a minimal recommended box of about 3.5cu ft. tuned to 34hz. I would probably get a deka 9a31 and maybe a high output alternator when I can get the money.

Or

Two 10" SSD subs, bp option, copper coils, D1, with an IA20.1 amp at 1 ohm in a maximum recommended box of about 3.0-3.5cu ft. tuned to 34hz. I would probably just get a deka 9a31 and thats it.

I'd go with option one. You really aren't going to save THAT MUCH room with option two.

well its not that i want to save more room because the biggest i can have the box is about 3.5 so that i can have the other options in my trunk. I just don't know if i should go with smaller size drivers to allow better box size for the size of the driver I choose.

and aren't the IA 20.1 rated for about 1800 watts at 1 ohm? thats 1000 watts each SSD. I have had about 1200 watts on one before. It took it fine. its probably 2200 watts at .5 ohm, so each SSD is getting 1100 watts. But I set my gains low anyways.

Lol. That amp is so under rated its ridiculous.

You'll murder those subs at 1 ohm and lock the coils at .5 in a matter of seconds.

It was more like 2200 @ 1 ohm 12v for the last 20.1. The new one makes even more power.

o chit. lol. well then how much are they making on 12v at .5 ohm? This is an older one, not the newer one.

is money any part of this? if it is, i'd go w/ option 2...running that amp at .5ohm will suck some power. running it at 1ohm will make it possible to keep the HO alt out of the picture...and save you a few hundred.

Incriminator Audio 20.1 - Rated 1800 RMS @ 1 ohm

2200 RMS @ 1 ohm

2500 RMS @ .5 ohm

3500 RMS @ .5 ohm @ 16 volt.

You may want to run it at 4 ohms and see how it sounds.

I'd be pretty apprehensive about running that amp on those subs.

Option 2 sounds like a good idea, just be easy with that amp on those drivers.

i want to face the subs into the backseat. i say backseat because i will have my backseats up almost always so yea. the face of the box with the subs on it will be at a diagonal so that i can have the box as close towards the backseat as possible to save room in the trunk and have more volume in the box. this is what i want to do but I don't know which direction to face the port and if this would be smart to have no or very little wave cancellation. i will probably have a sheet of mdf up to separate the subs from the rear of the trunk.

should i face the subs toward the backseat? any input?
