i dont wanna be rude... but..

im in kinda of a hurry... and im looking to hear from people who have tryed diffrent firing directions in a trunked car...

sub up port up..... up into my trunk lid... there is only 5 inches of space above the box before the lid.

sub back port up.... same thing 5 inches at the most before the trunk lid... but i may be more air to the cabin.

sub back port back..... thats what i have now... but im passenger side ported and thinking of going center port.

i have talked to a man that i know has the skills to make blue prints.

hes talking center port,, smooth cornors, double wood all over!

Subs forward, port on drivers side sealed to the cabin.

Get those batts into the trunk and allow your monster to breath!

its not that kinda of party... my batterys wit on top of the fuel tank....

there is no getting tha box nor the port closer to the cabin...

I would go with front firing subs and port. Get the box as far back as you can put you butties behind it

sure have... but i dont personaly know how to tune areo ports ...

and i have not seen them used in trunked cars... only SUV's and cars with the folded down seats..

Thanks for the pics of yo trunk. I see your dilema. I'd prob go sub back port back then and try to ope up some on the sides to allow air to move into the cabin. :drink40:

iv used them in a trunkset up they work great and take up less space

Is there any way you can do an enclosure that will use the space up on that shelf? Maybe make it sort of an "L" shape? That would gain you more space between the subs (firing back) and front of the trunk, you could move the batteries there.

i think every application will be different and there is no sure way to tell unless you tried wiht the same car. Personally i find sub back port back to work good for me,, but if you are chacing numbers you can face them into the cabin and seal them of around the box, this way I felt that SQ was slightly down, but as mentioned before it should gain maye a DB or 2

I built a box for a Beretta as two separate enclosures, and glued-n-screwed them together inside the car. A typical drop-in box would only accommodate about 3.6 cubes, I was able to get almost double that, or about 6.7 cu ft. I removed the seat back, had the 15" subs firing forward, and reached through the openings securing the two halves together. Installed the subs, replaced the seat back after hollowing out about half of the foam.

Looks like you don't have all that much height to work with, you'll probably have to fire the subs back.

Build whatever size enclosure will fit in the forward section, maximize the space. Instead of having a baffle facing you as you stare into the trunk, make it a flange, maybe 2" in width all the way around, it'll leave you with 1 1/4" inside the box to screw from one flange to the other. Build the outer portion of the enclosure so that it will drop down through the trunk - basically, the same size as the one you currently have (if that's the absolute biggest you can do that will still fit). Have the subs fire rearward, and reach through the cutouts to secure the two box "halves" together with screws - obviously, a nice healthy bead of silicone between the two flanges will help it be airtight.

If you've got 40"w x 16"d x 12"h in the forward area (just a "for instance"), you'd pick up about 3.64 cubes - you could also reduce the size of the outer enclosure to give you similar internal volume as to what you have now, and leave yourself a LOT of floorspace to mount the amps and batteries.

Now, the only other question would be..... do you have room to mount the batteries and/amps in the corners of the trunk?

I got some aeros from partsexpress and they came with instructions on how to figure them out. Also, what kind of port shouldn't matter in certain vehicles. At least I've never heard anybody say aeros work best in SUVs or anything like that. To me it seems like port is port (walls are likely a different story as it's hard to get 200 sq. inches or anything like that with aeros due to the size and shape of the flanges. It would just eat up too much room on the mounting baffle).

Now, the only other question would be..... do you have room to mount the batteries and/amps in the corners of the trunk?

no i dont... i have very little space on each side.. and it needs to be left for tools. as this is my daily.

well since you cant really do a side fireing port Id say just flip that box to where the port is on the drivers side instead of the passengers

Is there an arm rest in the rear seat? If so you could fire the subs either up or back and then have the port out the back of the box through the arm rest or even up through the rear deck. You could get some elbow pieces to use aeroports and curve them right up to the speaker holes in the rear deck or if there are no holes cut some for your own. I'd probably use 2 6" aeros in this case. A little more port area would probably work best but you really don't have anywhere for it to go. You could just do woofers up and the ports foward at the top of the box so they fit on top of the shelf in the back of the trunk. Then the port would be firing right into the seat and would need a way to get into the cabin like an arm rest. You would also have to use external aeros for that.

in my grand marquis i have sub up port back right now and i like it better than my old box wich was subs back port driver side so idk

I understand that each car loads differently, but box design plays a big role and prefab does not count.
