no bass? :-(

Recommended Posts

So, this morning at around 7AM, i get into my car, turn up the volume, and no bass.

The sub wasnt playing at all.

the lights on the amp were on, but i drive for like 15 minutes, still nothing. after 7 hours after school, i go to drive home, and still nothing, about half way home, BOOM the bass kicks in, just as loud as normal, no abnormalities.

what could have caused this? ive had the setup installed for a week or so.

1 15" FI BTL

Hifonics bxi-2608D

Alpine IDA X100 headunit

i have NOT checked ALL connections yet, but what else could it have been, it hasn't happened again yet. I will get a lot more concerned once it happens again, but right now, im not too worried.

Check all your connections, otherwise you may end up with a permanent problem... System don't just malfunction like that for no reason..

my previous amp did the same thing, sorry to say but it was spoiled. you might want to open the amp up and see if any of the capacitors has blown. This can be fixed and should not cost too much...the problem is it will likely happen again as was the case with me.

Right when I started reading it I figured it was going into protect... IDK why, but there was something about it that I thought that

that or maybe ur sub was frozen :) jpjp

Low voltage maybe?

i had a hifonics 4 channel that started doin that, first it was just one channel. and if i turned the h/u all the way up the channel kicked back on, then eventually the whole amp would stay in protect mode. i checked all the connections switched out all the speakers to see if it worked, but it still went into protect, i opened up the amp but couldnt see anythin real noticable. i ended up scrappin the amp.

this happened to me a while back when condensation got on the connections on the amp but it fixed itself so I don't know if this would be the same problem as yours. What is your electrical looking like? I think someone mentioned about voltage drops.

Well, its not anything blown in the amp, because it turned back on. but then once i started the car an hour later, then it didn't play.

i have only the big 3

and could it be because of 16 gauge speaker wire? :-( (which i am changing out today to 8 guage)

speaker wire cause a problem like that....

I'd guess you've got a bad connection somewhere or something has come loose in the amp.. I had a buddy with a soundstream amp that did the same thing... if he'd hit the top of the amp it'd kick back on... then hit it again it'd pop and sound would stop (power lights stayed on)

I had a similar sounding problem twice. The first time was due to a bad ground and the second time my remote wire fell out. -_-

I had a swiss 2000 do the same thing yesterday(I just installed it yesterday)... was working fine... turned the car off... got back in and nothing.... it hasn't come back on yet.... I just took the amp (and some $) back on trade for a kicker amp I had sitting around... now I know why the kid was so eager to trade.... Power lights are on, everything looks fine but no ouput...

traded him a new zx750.1 for $50 and this amp... grrr.... oh well.... I'll open it up and see if anything looks outta order...
