Got Laid Off

Recommended Posts

So I buy all this stuff and bam, got laid off. Oh well, free time to BUILD !!!!

As bad as it feels to have your job eliminated after being at the same place for 12 years, maybe its time for a change. I got a decent severance package (I'm paid until 9/30/09) WOO HOO. I'm going to fix some things around the house and try to get my chit installed/built into the car.

As long as I get a job within the next month, I'll be real happy, because then I'll pretty much have a $32k check to deposit in the bank of extra cash, that would be sweet (wife says new kitchen).

Anyway, hopefully I'll have some build pics up soon.

Thanks guys. Yea, I'm really trying to keep my head up and have the attitude of I'm gonna find a better job than where I was at. I'm already following up with people I've worked with while at the last company, some real good people. They pretty much are telling me the same story, someone with my skills and experience will not have a problem, I just have to find the openings.

My wife is following up with an opening they have where she works, but she says it will be culture shock, all their equipment is 5 years old or worse (government job). Where I came from, we pretty much upgraded every 3 years, I just finished installing a rack of quad core HP Proliant servers with VMware ESX on them, real speed demons, oh well....

Govt shit is ALWAYS behind the times, but the pay for someone like you is usually great.

If you can handle being away from the wife for a year or more look into KBR and ITT for govt contracting jobs in kuwait, iraq, dubai, quatar, etc. They pay someone with quals like you mention 100k a year or more and you get 30 PAID vaca days if u want man. Plus u stay there over i think its 235 days in a row and the whole year is tax free.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. I went through a few of those in 2007. You are lucky to get a severance. Hope your next job is better then the last. :)

Sorry to hear that man. Nothing is safe these days, even supposedly ultra-safe state jobs are being cut.

I had a friend who spent 6 months in Israel on the program Godsmack was talking about. Wouldn't want to be there now, obviously, but a couple years ago he got a beachfront house on the Med for free too while he was there.
