What comps do you like?

Recommended Posts

I am looking into getting a new set of components and was wondering what all of you guys like. I am currently trying to decide between edi 6500's, jl XR's and diamond hex s600s, but Im up for any other suggestions. I have a budget of about 450 for speakers and an amp to power them. BTW, I prefer more of the smooth sound of a soft dome tweeter, but when i heard the aluminum dome jl I actually didnt mind it all. Thanks in advance.

Eric

Id have to say DLS, because i can get them for cheap :)

Although...the silk tweeter is SUPER loud on them.

One thing i noticed about the JL's was the tweeter blended rather nice, but it isnt anything close as far as output compared to the DLS ones ;).

i like the memphis sq series. they are soft dome and really smooth. i've got my set ordered through my local dealer. i'm paying $200 for them. compared to my midlevel focal's, the sq's are far and away the better componet set and half the price..though retail is closer to $350

i also like their msync line. it is their midlevel speaker, with a metallic dome tweeter i believe. but it's extremely smooth as well. it is smooth enough that u can run sq's in one location and msync in another and they blend awesomely.

whcih is what i'll be doing....6.5 sq up front...4x6 msync in the back.

oh yeah, they also have an msync 8" componet set...i believe retail is about $350, i'm not for sure what it can be bought for.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Has anyone here heard the edi 6500's? How about cdt hd's? Both seem to have gotten pretty good reviews and I really like the package deal on the edi's and nine.2. Plus the nine.2 will match my nine.1.

Has anyone else heard the orion p6.2s? For the price they dont seem like they would be as good as the ed's or the cdt's, but then again they could just be a better deal.

the price is really low because I just need to sell them, not trying to make a profit

My buddy has a set of the edis. They are getting replaced if that tells you anything. Nothing spectacular in my eyes.

Were they lacking in a particular area or was the sq just not quite there?

well, with 150ea my Orions get buried by my single MT 18" running off a colossus Gen XX. If I had to rate them I'd say upper low end or lower mid level, not too great. I guess they have nice bass, I can't think of too much special about them. I paid $265 for mine at a local shop. though :( , for $160 they are pretty dayum nice...

I have HEARD both but I havent had the oppertunity to play with them. In the 2 applications I heard the Orions were much louder and the mid-bass played smooth through out all the range. The Efs were smoother then the Orions and played at a decent level for my ears, they did only have the 3/4" tweets so their output was very similar to the CL tweet set (I beleive that they are the same set).

I personally have the HD-62 set, doors deadened and baffles installed. I feel that they played just as well, even better then both sets above. They have a nice 1" silk tweet that is not harsh and blends very well with the mid-bass/mid-range. I am running around 165rms per side they are rated at 180rms.

The HDs ran me $300 shipped so I would say that if thats what you have to spend go for it, if you are not wanting to shell out the money definatly juump on the Orions, although I do beleive that Denim sold them to Nick ;)

What about a set of lower end dyns? like the 240GT or 220MK. I think you can get those for around 300-450 if you look hard enough. Those are pretty sick little two ways if you ask me.. but after using three ways for so long, I'll never go back.
