Good idea?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I've been thinking about this for a long time and it's been bugging me. Anyway, I have a 12" Fi Q in a 2.5 Cuft ported box after displacement tuned 32hz getting a solid 1000 watts and, first I have to say it's an amazing sub, but I've been thinking about replacing it with a 15" IXL. What I'm looking for is to keep the excellent sound quality my Q has which I think the IXL would do very well, but also I want to have the ability of getting much louder than my Q if one day I decide to turn it up or demo or something. What I was thinking of was if I got one, I would put it in a 4 Cuft ported box but I don't know if that is too big or not since the recommended size on the website is around 3 Cuft ported. What I also really want is to have very good lows. Lows as in mid to high 20hz's and up. The car, or SUV I mean, is a Chevy Trailblazer. I want to try something new and different and I think the IXL will be just that. The sub just looks amazing by the way, I love how the cone is just plain black with nothing on it. I just don't know if its worth it or not to switch over  . This may be a dumb question to some but I just want an answer from the pros. Like I said its been bothering me for a while. So, what do you guys think?

As far as I know the Fi is a very good unit, and I think you would be able to achieve more output from it if you throw it into a bigger box like you mentioned.

It's your call of course, and if you want something different, the IXL would be a contender.

Best,

Mark

Hmm...I guess yeah. I am willing to try it out. I would just have to sell my Q first. Does anyone have something else to say or something?

what amp would you be using? you may get the desired effect if you add another 12" q and more power. If you are wanting something different with a little more on the same amp then the IXL 15 is a good choice. I understand wanting to try new things, as I love my setup now but I am always wanting to try different things.

I have a Planet Audio RXD1000. Mine came with a birthsheet that says mine does 1002 watts at 1 ohm and 754 watts at 2. I was thinking about getting another Q but then I would have only 754 watts to give to them. Then if I decided to get a new amp, I would have to get a whole new alternator, possibly two new batteries, and newer thicker wiring and all that which could get expensive. That is why I was thinking about possibly selling the Q to get something different on the same amp.

I hear you on the getting very expensive. I have a single 15 tc 3k and it pounds the lows while still having great output. so I say give it a shot.

How much you want for the Q? what options? ohms?

Yeah. I bet that's a killer sub.

I was thinking probably 220 or 230 or something like that. It doesn't have the BP power option and its a dual 2. I'm just hoping to get almost my all my money back for it but I doubt that will happen since I bought the sub before the prices went down. It has never been abused and the sub looks like it's brand new.
