What is a signal processor? How much? Why would you need one?

it modifies the signal. You can get an EQ, which allows you to adjust the levels of certain frequencies up and down. You can get a crossover, which sends only ideal frequencies to the individual speaker in the system.

How much greatly depends on what you're looking for, what options, and what brand. It can be from 20 to 2000 or more, just like amps or subs.

You would need one if you want to modify the signal.

It will also include time alignment, for compensating that you are bound to end up on unequal distances from your speakers, which you remedy with this feature.

You will have more options to adjust the sound to your satisfaction and in a more convenient way, as many of the present processors can/must be set from a portable computer.

I don't have any goals and this is an entry-level system that I want to be better than entry level. I know enough about electronics to be dangerous and that's it. I have money to spend but don't want to get out of control ( this is not for competition ).
