Suggest a LOC

Recommended Posts

I want to use the line out from an Alpine MRP F300 amp to temporarily (1-2mos.) power a mono amp for subs until I get a head w/sub pre-outs. Any suggestions for a good reasonably priced one. This is very temporary. Also, will doing this affect the 4-channel speaker outs of the amp?

I am a little unclear on what you want to do. You want to connect a LOC to the outputs on the alpine amp? If so I would be a little cautious of burning the LOC with to much power. Isnt there a RCA output on the Alpine amp so you can daisy chain the amps with RCAs?

As already stated:

Are you using preamp level for inputs to the Alpine? If yes, daisy chain the line output on the alpine amp to the preamp input of the subwoofer amp. No LOC needed

If you are using speaker level inputs to the Alpine amp, use the rear outputs on the headunit, not the amplifier, as the inputs to the LOC.

PAC makes a nice 10:1 LOC. It is my favorite for installing amps with factory headunits.

The amp has line out RCA's, isn't that different than pre-amp out to daisy chain. Isn't line level voltage much higher ?

No. It is the same voltage level as the RCA inputs - It is jus a pass through made for daisy chaining amps.

Using the head outs will defeat the purpose of the 4-channel amp. Correct?

Not in place of the 4-channel. your main speakers would still connect to the 4-channel amp. The rear ouputs of the deck would just drive the LOC.

speaker wire = high voltage

RCA = preamp level voltage

Thanks for the info. There are pre-amp outs on the head I just didn't know all RCA outs were low level. I have a Tahoe and going to drive the door spkrs w/the 300W alpine daisy-chain a Hifonics 2000W mono to drive 2 Power Acoustik 1200W 12" subs at 1Ohm. Sound good? Any suggestions or hints?

Should work fine. A lot of people do not like Hifonics, but I have never had a problem with them if you do not abuse them.
