How do you tune your headunit?

I have a friend (yeah, that's how it always starts) that says when he tunes his EQ on his head unit, he just leaves it flat across the spectrum. The only thing he ever adjusts is the crossovers on the amp(s). This is the first time I've heard of this. He says the head unit's crossover points are usually set in the wrong place so it won't get the most out of it something like that. I have a DEH-P600UB with the 7-band EQ, should I follow his advice or just tune it to what I think sounds good (no distortion, etc.)

tune it to what you think sounds good. What does he mean the headunit's crossovers are usually set in the wrong place? If the headunit has crossovers, you can adjust them. So I don't know how they can be set wrong if you set them?

most probably the default settings are tuned incorrect...

and i agree, go with what your ears tell you...go tune with what ever makes you smile...

Every car is different so you have to tune it accordingly. Are you talking about your crossover points or EQing it?

Yeah, my headunit has a LPF of 80Hz wtf haha.

Do what YOU want to do, what sounds good to YOU! Just don't do the noobtastic "California smile" EQ haha.

lol it really all depends on what you have and such. Its always nice to set the crossovers on the deck for extra protection and there's nothing wrong with using the eq as well. I think what your friend was getting at is pionner has the eq set to "powerful" on most decks... I agree that should be changed to flat or custom tuned by you.
