Sundown E8 Tline

Recommended Posts

I decided to take out my big setup for a while because it takes alot of drivablilty out of my car, specially in the rain and the last few days ice. So this will be my setup for a bit until i get a better suspension for the back of my car. I got 4 of the E8's from the presale, for now ill be using two in two separate tline boxes. the lines are a little short due to space, but im goin to see how it sounds. Im also putting a line for both the front and back of each sub. so 4 total lines. If this doesnt satisfy me ill go back to a longer line for just one side of the sub. the center piece has to be removable so i can get the sub in the box too. this is also the first box ive built that im going to put a plexi-glass face on.

Its freezin outside today so i havent got much work done but heres what i have.

This sounds interesting not sure how well it will work though.

Just out of curiosity, Tony, what was your final verdict on the TLine you build with those Goldwood drivers?

After i finished both boxes, with the goldwood drivers i like the second box better. I originally got these E8s to build two more boxes like those for them, but ill be using these in my car for now. The second box is also easier the build, the first one is hard to fit the woofers in if there magnets are too big. so all around i prefer the second style better

Isn't that what your doing now. You have a filter on the front wave of the sub and a filter on the back wave of the sub.

Neato... The top doesn't look like it is going to be fun to cut.

Ive got it made already. it just a board with a guide to hold the centerpiece centered. i might have to make it removable so i can get the center piece in and out. at first i was just going to have the center piece that holds the sub slide in and out, but its real tight so it will be easier to make the top removable.

I believe he was asking what the quarter wave lengths are ie 30hz, 40hz of each side? Are they the same are they different?

if it reacts anything like a sixth order bandpass tuning both to the same wont be good. the 35 45 idea is a little better id do 30 60 if you had the room.

20/40 if you had a UPS truck. Nom Nom.

45 45 is two lines 75in long at a ratio of 1:1 a 30 60 is 112in 56in so a little longer overall but not much. so if you dont like the box try shifting the subs over one line lengthening one side and shortening the other should make it close to a 30 80.

all of that sounds like it would work good, but doesnt the line of a tline have to be either the fs of the driver, or the boost frequency on the amp?

Nothing to do with either.

The length determains the cutoff, that's it...

Read up on Martin Kings (www.quarter-wave.com) white papers, you'll save yourself alot of time and headache.

Additionally, diysubwoofers.org has a short, yet to the point explanation of a T-line.

To be honest, most "T-lines" you see here, or any car audio site for that matter, aren't T-lines at all....
