thats the same as on another site...

go to

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

and put in

width 34"

height 16"

depth 18"

depth 18"

wood thickness 1"

port width 4"

port length2 22"

for all the blanks in order

and tell me what you think.. cause thats about as big as i can get and the freq i want to be around,

will that work with that port shaped like that and all?

1" MDF if you can get it is great. You would most likely depending on how your port is set up, not need bracing in it.

what do you think i should use?

.75?

i was told to go thick....

Most of us use 3/4" MDF do to availability. If you have access to 1", by all means, use that!

You can download google sketchup free (just search it on google). Its not to hard to figure out and comes with a tutorial.

Have you decided on the thickness of the wood your using? 1" may be a little thick for those dimensions ex your height is 16" so your internal height will be 14" and the 15" cutout diameter is 14.125" see what I'm getting at. Also using 1" wood with those dimensions you are under the minimum box requirements of 3cuft.

yo man, that sounds like a great box! be sure to post some pics of the build. don't forget to make sure you actually angle the box into your trunk before you have it all assembled, mine was right on the edge. almost had to grease it up to get it in :D

ok, ill do 3/4" wood

and caligreen... the last box i built, it was 34 wide, 18 deep and 16.5 tall...

we had to round the edges just to barley be able to get the beast in....

as a matter of fact, i got picstures!!!!

photobucket is being gey right now, and wont let to my album...

but it was beautiful

haha nice, i know what you mean about trying to cram a big box in a little japan trunk! i think you're going to like this woofer a LOT more than your type R's. now it's all about getting power into that btl because even though it's so efficient and will play very loud with very little power it will just keep getting louder and louder until you can't throw any more power at it. 33 or 34 maybe? the lower you tune the more of your box will be used as port and not airspace.

watts = amps x volts... so unless you got a 180amp alternator and a couple runs of 1/0 i don't think you're going to get the most out of that amp, or any big amp for that matter. you're definitely going to need a couple sealed batteries to get the most out of this system, and probably a new alternator down the road. i can't even provide my sundown 1500 with enough juice lol. :D

Double baffle because the sub is a good 40 to 50 pounds and it will also cut down on enclosure flexing.
