Wiring an amp.

Recommended Posts

Im about to buy a 10" icon and a sae-1000D but i was wondering on how i should buy the power wires. I was thinking of buying a wiring kit but they just seem really expensive and im not sure which to get. Or should i just get buy the wire and the connectors and fuses etc.

Where could i find good wiring kits and a place to buy wire and connects and fuses online? I know about weldingsupply.com. Anyone ever used this site?

At least 75 amps cause that is the amps fuse rating. Usually the power wire is fused to the capacity of the wire unless the amp doesnt have internal fuses.

edit thought of wrong amp so wrong fuse rating, fixed.

any size fuse will work, just so long as it's not above the fusing John put in his post for the wire size. Then at the other end, you usually don't want to go below the fusing that the amp has on it because you run the possibility of blowing that fuse a lot, which is just annoying. Kind of a general rule is to add up the fusing on the amps you are running and use that size fuse on the power wire, just so long as the fuse size doesn't exceed the wire's current-carrying capability.

I have a 100 amp fuse on my 1/0 and have never blown it or had any problems.
