Box Design help

Recommended Posts

I have an 1988 camaro iroc z. I have drawn out a box plan for the box to set on the hump area. the box numbers are 8"h x 22"d x 40"w. Which is 4.07 cu.ft and 3 net. I have 8" clearance for the port. I am roughtly 2" from the glass on the end of the box. with about 6" from the glass in middle - where the subs would be.

I haven't built a box or done any figuring on the numbers. Math was never my strong area, lol. I am looking at doing 3 DD 1508 or 2 SSA Icon 10s. Would this box work? What would my port need to be?

Woops, edit.

Well lets start off like this. What amp do you plan on using and what electrical support do you have so far?

Sundown Audio saz 3000d - I have no support currently. I'll do the Big 3, optima battery and alternator.

May need a little more than one optima battery. But as for the box, try to aim for about 15 in2 per cubic foot of port area. So if 2 cft net, then 30 sqin port area. See where that takes you. And since the box is rather big, try some bracing every 15 inches or so.

should i run 3 8's or 10s? is the box too large?

this is for the dd info....

2.25^ft (2-3) 8" or (1) 12" 36.0 sq" vent x 16" long tunes to 40Hz

2.50^ft (3) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 12" 40.0 sq" vent x 16" long tunes to 40Hz

2.75^ft (3) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 12" 44.0 sq" vent x 16" long tunes to 40Hz

or run a smaller box for a single 10 or 12.
