Fi Q 10 or AA Havoc 12

Recommended Posts

First, excellent place for information these forums are. I'm sure I'll lose a ton of sleep pouring over these pages.

Now on to my situation. I don't need my vehicles to get extremely loud (I'm very happy at 125db), but I like it to be pretty clean. For this reason I usually prefer older equipment... running a pair of Kicker s12d solobarics until very recently (very happy with those btw). Newer stuff, especially "main stream" stuff tends to be more spl oriented and is usually pretty muddy for my tastes.

Due to a downsize in vehicle (it's a 91 318is bmw) I am looking for a single sub I can stick in around a sealed 0.9-1.2ft^3 and sound clean, and loud when desired. I really like the xmax on these two subs, and the fi q is about 10lbs lighter than the havoc and probably requires a slightly smaller box. I'd like to stay sealed as I tried a single Alpine Type R (different class of sub I know) in a 1.4ft^3 ported enclosure tuned at 34hz and was less than pleased. It was great at certain frequencies but I wasn't happy with it as an all around daily sub setup because I listen to lots of different genres of music. My 2 solos always sounded good in 1.2ft^3 sealed enclosures no matter what I was listening to. I'm looking for that kind of sound in a single sub setup.

Will be pushing 700w RMS at 2ohm to whichever sub I get. Will be sealed against the firewall and fired into the cabin from the trunk through the back seat which has a ski pass. If you need anymore information about my plans or goals let me know. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. You folks seem to be much more familiar than I with these 2 subs. The specs look great to me, but without experience with them... I'd prefer to ask.

this thead compares the two woofers:

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...14193&st=15

the havoc requires only .6cu net sealed according to their website. your limiting factor at this point appears to be your amplifier.

I found that review last night about a half hour after posting. Very helpful.

Looks like I am going to get the Havoc after doing some research, and with the suggestions here. Don't know about .6 cubes... will throw it in at least a .9 cube sealed enclosure and see how it goes. I can get a smoking deal on the havoc anyway so I think it's going to be the way to go.

Thanks again guys, more input is always welcome... but going to get the Havoc and see what it can do.

Personally, with the two listed initially, with the power and the smaller box size and your preferences, I would choose the Fi Q 10.

sounds great. :bigclap: post some pictures when you get the woofer and start installing stuff! i think your going to be happy with a larger enclosure. getting as large an enclosure as possible will be good with limited power on deck.

Considering your goals...I'd take a look at the Soundsplinter RL-i 10 or a Q10.

It's not like you really need a lot of output.

I agree, and this was the reason for looking at the Q 10 to begin with. Just happened I can get a Havoc for $175 new local so I am going to try that first. I've heard the Havoc in a ported box and it is indeed a beast... I don't need it to hit as deep or hard as the box I heard (140ish dB I think he told me) but I think it might fill my needs. It also had very nice SQ when listening to a non bass only type of CD.

Keep the suggestions coming guys. Looks like the room is split with half liking the havoc 12 and half the q 10.

I will post plenty of pics of my setup... they usually take me a week or two to finish though since I like to use plexi and all that shiny stuff. :)

Can't beat that price !

One more good thing is you got to hear it in person.

I will definitely keep everyone updated on build progress. I believe it's the new one, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'll post pics when I pick it up on Monday.

Thanks again everyone for the advice and input. I think I am going to be very happy with this sub... even if it is a bit heavier than the Q.
