small yet long question about FI Q 12"

Recommended Posts

Alright, for the last year and a half iv been planning on getting the 10" SSD till recently i found a steal of a deal on craigslist for a 12"Q for 100 bucks duel 1.75 ohm coils

Currently i have it in a ported box with 600W RMS running to it at 4 (3.5)ohms. My question is if i run it with both positives and negatives together insted of series and it turns into 1 (.87)Ohms will it be too much being alittle under 1 ohm load? if not then what would be a good amp to push it at 1 ohm 1000 RMS?

My plan in the end is to get a sealed encloser with 1000 RMS @ 1 ohm since i like sealed better and getting a 1000RMS 4 ohm amp is expensive as hell..

thanks for helping an taking the time.

The coils compensate for box rise, it will be fine.

Ok so even if the sub is running lower then 1 ohm because the amps 1 ohm its not going to draw different resistance.

I wan't to be 100% flawlessly sure before i hook it that way and not blow out the amp like iv done before (used to have alpine type R double 2 ohm)

wow thats a "steal" you got on that sub. did it "fall of the truck"? lols

honestly i don't doubt it ha.. i saw it and i was like OMFG no way... so i drove 40 min there and tested it with a ohm tester and both coils checked clean. hooked it up to my comp amp (has a 120 RMS 4 ohm sub output) to test its flexability and still flawless its ability to flex max out and in as fast as possible with eas.

So my guess it he had alot of money or this thing was jacked... either way i made out with a smile

that sub has dual 2 ohm coils. 1.75 is the Re of each coil. Amps and subs alike are rated at nominal loads, which is the dual 2 part. So you putting that sub on that amp would be no different than putting any other dual 2 ohm sub on it.

That makes no sense. . .

If you measure the resistance with an ohm meter, you are reading the DC resistance.

The voice coil has an inductance, so when an AC signal is passed through it, it has an impedance. This impedance varies with frequency.

JL Audio 1000/1 amps can do 1kW RMS @4 ohms but they are expensive as hell.

A Sundown Audio SAE-1000D will be a perfect match for that Q. You got a damn good price...the more reason for a good amp like the Sundown.

Alright, as of this moment have that sub running from a crunch pzi100.1 @ 1 ohm. Sounds decent and does not overheat (its a hold over till i can afford the sundown) also im having a hard time trying to find some with a sealed box that will trade me for my ported since i enjoy SQ more
