totalled my truck, getting ready for new setup

Recommended Posts

Soooo, some stupid drugged up moron stole a truck on the other side of my neighborhood....while running from the cops he plowed right through my truck and totalled it completely....right after just getting it ready to put a system in a blowthrough. Sooo, now I am pimpin a nice newer 2008 F150 FX2 (bright red)....it is pretty sexy....anyway, I dont think I really want to do a blowthrough anymore. This truck looks more like a performance truck, so I am thinkin of just putting some subs under the back seats (4 dr) to keep the weight down a little. I have never sat in a truck that had subs under the seats......how do they sound and can they get decently loud? again, this kinda thing is new to me so any input would be great.

not to sure what will fit at the moment, but some ideas on subs would be great too. i listen to literally everything....opera, rock, rap, metal, EVERYTHING. At the moment I am eyeballin' some of those newer oval Boston subs, but other input would be great.

I figure with a blow through you were going for SPL. What do you want out of this one? I've heard one of those Boston SPG's, they are pretty nice.

I was more SPL, but to be honest, its not like I would really ever compete, so its not 100% all that important. I am going to do some estimated weight tests to get a rough idea of the weight difference of putting subs under the seat vs a blowthrough, not sure how huge of an impact it would be...i just dont want it to totally drain the performance of the truck.

just leaving work, so please excuse my slow response as I am bout to head to the homestead.

What type of room do you have, dimensions wise?

ah hell, i will take some measurements tomorrow before i go to work.....but if i do them under the seat I will probably put in a 3" raiser for the seat to give them a little more room.

Its a ford, not like you had much performance to begin with ;)

Also don't forget to factor in that with a blow through you will also probably have more/bigger amps, more/bigger subs, extra battery, extra sound deadening to stop rattles, bed cover of some sort, etc...

You also may need an HO alternator which will pull more power from the engine then the stock alt (probably not much more but with performance, everything counts)

Sorry to hear about your old truck being totaled. Since this is a brand new truck, and I get the sense you do not want to do as heavy of modifications for the audio, other then going for loud and having a wide range of listening preferences, what are your goals with the system?

What do you have planed for the mid's and highs?

Do you have a budget you want to stay in?

What electrical adjustments or upgrades do you plan on doing?

etc.

budget wise, it is fairly open.....I figure around $400 per component set, already have a RF1000.1 amp and a RF400.4 amp. I always think bigger is better when it comes to some stuff, so I plan on about a 250 amp alt roughly and obviously big 3. A nice new batt under the hood is a given. As for what speakers I plan to use, I am still lookin...not 100% on what I would like to run with. Head unit wise....I am lookin at one of the newer Kenwood double din touchscreen dvd players (the 700 series I beleive it is).

I'm pretty sure no one will ever sit in the center of the rear seat....so I am almost tempted to try to do a little center console for the rear that will contain the subs. So a thing in Truckin' some months back where a UFC fighter did one in his truck and it just sits on the ground and goes up into the center portion.

Roughly, I am looking around a total of about $6k or so range in the short range budget....room for future adjustments.

i saw a box i think from fisher customs that sat on the middle seat of the back in a 4 door truck that had an ICON in it, and it went down to the floor where it ported.

check out some LMI seat risers and the boxes they have at supercrewsound

might help you get an idea of what you can fit back there

i would also suggest reading some threads over on f150online.com, its all about ford over there
