Always nice to know that the gas pedal could get stuck in the accelerate position.

If it's the 3.4 motor... keep an eye on the Lower Intake Manifold. They are very well known for poopin'. Early on too.

DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it was recalling about 792,000 pickup trucks and sport/utility vehicles because of a fire risk from overheating of the speed control switch.

The recall involves some of Ford (Research)'s biggest money-makers, 2000 model-year F-150 pickup trucks, Expedition and Navigator SUVs, and 2001 model-year F-Series Supercrew pickup trucks equipped with speed control.

Overheating of the speed control switches may spark fires under the hood of the vehicles, Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley said. "We did determine the switch may be susceptible to overheating," Kinley added.

One person may have been injured in connection with the recalled vehicles, according to Ford.

The automaker will be notifying the owners of the vehicles in the beginning of February to have the electrical connector from the speed control switches disconnected, Kinley said.

Ford is in the process of acquiring replacement speed control switches, according to the automaker.

"Once replacement switches are available, we will issue a second owner notification to have the switch replaced and the speed control reconnected," Ford said in a statement.

Last month, Ford recalled more than 600,000 Escapes and Mazda Tribute SUVs from the 2002-2004 model years because the accelerator cable may prevent the engine from returning to idle, which could increase stopping distance and result in a crash.

Ford stock fell about 1 percent in afternoon New York Stock Exchange trading.

I have a buddy that works at a GM dealership and he tells me about all these "common" problems that they all suffer from that GM does not recall for fear of losing money. Stupid automakers.

On another note you all will find interesting: The whole scam with the Pinto and the explosive gas tanks, well, Ford knew this before they ever sold 1. They actually had accountants figure the cost of fixing/redesigning vs. potenetial lawsuits and found the lawsuits to be the least expensive of the 3. Makes you wonder. Don't ask where I got that info either. I'll NEVER tell.

Wasn't his job to figure out how much it would cost the automotive companies to handle the lawsuits on the failed parts and see if it was worth recalling parts? I believe so. I think thats how he ended up getting the free salary from his boss because he said he would tell otherwise.

I need to watch that movie again. Such an awesome movie.
