I have only tried firing up and firing forward. Up in the camero against the back glass sounded great once the hatch was sealed better. In my truck since I have a regular cab the only option is forward, I am happy with the way it sounds. I do however wish I had a tahoe or yukon. Then I could play and find out what I like.

IMO, facing doesn't change the sq as much as it changes the spl.

especially if it's a well built enclosure.

When I hauled the Xmas tree home last year, I put the box firing upwards between the seats, so I could fit the tree all the way inside, so I got a chance to listen to it like that. The output was drastically reduced, even though the distance from the sub to my ear was reduced by about ten feet.

A proper downfiring enclosure in my truck sounds the best with the Shivas. I can't design one so the next best thing for my application was upfiring. Well, they're slightly tilted ... one to the left, one to the right ... about 15 degrees or so. Nothing drastic, just for looks.

The IROC has had many different enclosures ... with the 'best sounding' one being with the drivers firing towards the rear of the car. Mind you, the boob cone 15XXX and 1800 watts didn't do jack chit over the pulsing exhaust anyways.

i think the car also has to be considered a factor in this situation

i think there was a whole experiement with the positioning of the sub, i forgot the site tho

i can only remember that facing the trunk has the fastest bass response time but loses bass when trunk opened.

I have had my SE in a sealed (cube) and ported (2^3's net) facing 2 different ways. My sealed was facing forward and sounded pretty good, My ported box is shooting up now and has a lot of output. Since they are two different boxes I'm not sure how that affects things, I think I should try backfiring (towards the rear of my truck) sometime

Facing forward (the cabin).. Punchy <-- but bad fequency response.(i hate it)

Firing Upwards... too much trunk rattels <-- (very bad) without deadner or so..

Firing backwards.... mmm nice frequency response .. just the way i like it!

system is not installed nowadays.. will try to do other positions...after it gets installed..

in my jeep the sq is better when pointing up, but this is really just due to the rear rattling when I fire it back. I think in any car that is properly deadened the sq should be the same regardless of which way its pointing.
