New car should I make 2 way comp into 3 way or...

Recommended Posts

I got a new car and it has 3 speakers in the door. i have 6.5" and tweeter and need 4" should i GULP (so much $$$$) buy the right cross over and the 4" speaker for over $500 or put a 4" and make it my rear. if i make my 4" a rear i will need a new amp. unfortunately I'm looking at $500 eathar way i think, maybe not

Will a 3 way blow my mind or 2 way with rear be as good?

my specs right now:

Head Unit: Alpine W200

Subwoofer: SI 15" Mag

Sub Amp: Cadence A7+HC 1200@1Ohm

Mids: CDT Eurosport ES-620

Mids Amp: HiFonics Son of Boltar 150x2@4Ohm

Battery: Kinetik Power HC1800

Rear Speakers: none

Everything is in a box as i plan my setup in new car

Three ways are nice, but you really have to implement them properly. With the additional speaker it takes more tuning, but can sound better in the end.

The way I see it you have two options to do 3 way. One is to get a whole new 3-way component set that comes with passive crossovers made for it. Or the second is to buy an additional 4" driver and go active. You'd likely have to purchase an external 3-way crossover for this, and a 4 channel amp. You could use your hifonics on the midbasses and the new 4 channel on the mid and highs.

i would buy the CDT cross over for the 3 way system and the 4". so $500 instead of $1500

I guess the real question is will the CDT 3 way sound better then a 2 way?

It depends on you and what you do to install them. You really aren't giving us any information, the equipment doesn't make the install.

I personally wouldn't spend any money on the CDT's. Way better options for less.

I have CDT ES 06 mid bass in my doors, ES 04 and DTR tweets in my kick panels. I'm running a two amp system. 04's and tweets through CDT's crossover 2-way and second amp to my 06's midbass active. I have them banpass through my hu and some 500 hz and down filters. I feel this set up is very nice. In fact, I'll prob. never have a two way system again. Also to save money and get a very clean set up I found some old ppi's on ebay spent around 210 shipped for both of my ppi 2100's. Everything has worked great I get alot of people that can't believe how good it sounds. Hope this helps. Good luck

Nice car. As a minimum I'd use sealed MDF baffles, cover the holes in the door and deaden.

well i think i'm not doing 3way the 4" speaker is in the rear of my door and is a stock rear speaker and i think it will sound like crap just behide the butt of the person in the car or i could be wrong, not sure.

i was looking at a upstage tweet system that uses the dr-26 also. i can't return this stuff if i dont like it, that is my problem.

Let's start from scratch then. Do you have any pics of your doors? I haven't ever yanked the skin on one of those and seeing what is mounted where would help.

Also, curious as to why you seem to only be looking at CDT?
