im a bit confused about the raptors real differances from a stock f150 aside fron engine shocks and body.

as in could i build one for less using a new f150 and just modding?

In some articles is sounds like the chassis/frame is much different.

I also understood it to have a different axle etc... but now I cannot confirm.

in another article it sounded to downplay it. I really love the curvy exterior. I cannot find the pic but its aparently about 7 inches wider and so has some sexy flares.

I may be sold on this truck and be about to make another bad financial decision

=)

hrmmmm..

I thought the 6.2 was exclusive for a year or so also...

Its the same chassis as all the new 2009 F-150's. The 2009 F-150's frame is different than the 2004-2008 F-150's, which is maybe what they meant?

The main difference between an F-150 4WD and an F-150 Raptor are:

35" BFG A/T's

Front and Rear Lockers

Suspension

Front Fenders, Hood, Grille

Basically a right off the showroom pickup that will traverse pretty much any off road trail out there. Can you build a more capable 4WD vehicle for 40 grand? Can you build a comparable vehicle for much less money? Of course you can.

Just have to ask yourself how much time and effort are you willing to spend, and whether or not you have the tools necessary to do it :)

My guess is the difference is really just in the suspension. ie everything outboard from the frame. Add a body kit and boom.

All '09 F-150's now have both the shocks and springs outboard from the frame; its one of their selling features

not that i would even expect the old 97 expy to keep up even if I did dump 40K into it.

I thought they've had that for a couple years already? At least I thought I remember seeing the commercials with Mike Rowe with two frames rocking, one with outboard and one with inboard shocks, showing the differences, quite a while ago.

F the shop trying to tell me they needed to drop the transfer case and open it in half and replace all of the seals for $1,000. I looked myself and could easily tell that the only seals leaking are where the driveshaft input and output are. The center gasket is not leaking at all. 8+ hours labor, ha. Bitches.

I may just watch it. From the looks of the fairly dried oil that's already on there, it has been leaking a while with little or no ill effects (can feel or hear none). So they can't be leaking that bad. Maybe I'll just top it off every week or two, I could certainly buy a bunch of cases of ATF to refill it for the grand they wanted to charge me. Has anybody had any luck with stop leak or seal refresher additives when seals leak like this?

Time to go to the other shop to have them replace the cruise control cable that they broke while replacing the thermostat housing for free. Thanks douches.

Don't put stop leak or any other snake oil in a vehicle that you care about is my opinion.

the electrical issues have me going nuts also.

aside from a new engine, im not sure it will ever end.

Check the harness by the EGR valve. I have seen these get burnt multiple times and fuck shit up everywhere.

hrm..

interesing. so the extra 7" on the front and rear are all tire and spacer?

By adding the long travel suspension, they also simultaneously increased the track width of the vehicle because they used longer A-Arms. They most likely added spacers on the rear axle to match the track width of the front. That way they could use the stock width F-150 rear axle.

I can guarantee you they did NOT do that. No manufacturer would ever use a spacer. They either accounted for it in the wheel or used longer axles.

You know you can replace those seals yourself with about $50 worth of parts and $20 worth of tools and about 15 minutes of labor.

Word. no truer words.

i need a vehicle answer though. mine isn't reliable in its current state, and it doesn't excite me all that much.

Do I love it? Yes.

I have never had a car that cost more than a couple months of pay.

Should probably just be happy I have a job and that at least it's not a 4.6 liter. Or worse, it could have a bow tie.

buahahahaha

=)

I'm just sitting on too much untapped potential and since im most annoyed by my vehicle right now, and I have an unhealthy love for motorized toys.... my finances are "burning a hole"

Also, do a google search for Two Guys Garage. They just had a a product on there for rejuvenating seals and it was guaranteed to work. One of the guys used it on his tow rig and said it did indeed work. Had a leaky tailshaft on the trans.

Thanks I shall.

I need to get that Trans relay switch checked out. I'm just going to replace it. I hope that stops fuses from blowing.

I keep having dreams of winning the lottery, yet, nothing.. . . . . I could really use it. I'd donate half, move, then set up my son and niece and nephews with a nice college fund.

Have you installed that new fancy crapper yet, and where is the detailed review? Was it able to handle the chocolaitty mids and lemon zest highs?

I'm tired of sitting with my knees in my chest on the todler sized unit in my house.
