I'm getting the wifey warmed up to me either completely redoing my truck completely or in the comming year getting the new 6.2 f150 svt.

It's not a E63, but about the same cost new that the E would be after a few years used. I'm nervous to get a first gen engine though.

I change my mind and flip back and forth more than Favre. LOLZ

the new Raptor? If you do end up getting a Raptor you better not pussy foot around in it...remember reading about it in either Peterson's or Four Wheeler, they thrashed the piss out of one and it just begged for more...good to see OEM's churning out capable 4x4's from the showroom floor...

Now if only Dodge had put the Cummins in the Power Wagon...

500HP, locking rear AND front diffs, 35" BFG A/T's, insane articulation, sounds like fun to me

i paid for my wedding with moneys that were tax deferred. I didnt think to take a loan on my house. I own one of our houses complete with no mtg.

I will suffer taxes now.

im a bit confused about the raptors real differances from a stock f150 aside fron engine shocks and body.

as in could i build one for less using a new f150 and just modding?

In some articles is sounds like the chassis/frame is much different.

I also understood it to have a different axle etc... but now I cannot confirm.

in another article it sounded to downplay it. I really love the curvy exterior. I cannot find the pic but its aparently about 7 inches wider and so has some sexy flares.

I may be sold on this truck and be about to make another bad financial decision

My guess is the difference is really just in the suspension. ie everything outboard from the frame. Add a body kit and boom.

As for can you do it for the same price? I doubt it, but you could end up with a superior truck.

Its the same chassis as all the new 2009 F-150's. The 2009 F-150's frame is different than the 2004-2008 F-150's, which is maybe what they meant?

The main difference between an F-150 4WD and an F-150 Raptor are:

35" BFG A/T's

Front and Rear Lockers

Suspension

Front Fenders, Hood, Grille

Basically a right off the showroom pickup that will traverse pretty much any off road trail out there. Can you build a more capable 4WD vehicle for 40 grand? Can you build a comparable vehicle for much less money? Of course you can.

Just have to ask yourself how much time and effort are you willing to spend, and whether or not you have the tools necessary to do it

I bet i could do better. The problem is I dont have a shop to do it all myself. I would need to pay a shop to add any modifications....

I could just dump cash into my old exp, but to have 4 seats and a bed and a frame that has no rust could be worth a few bucks. knocking of rust and putting on rustolium ended up being much more work than I thought and the rust down there has me thinking about life span of my poor little expy.

In truth for a 13 year old truck thats been rode hard by myself and moved me 5 times in 3 years its in AMAZING SHAPE.

I will need to decide if its worth completely overhauling the old truck or starting over....

By adding the long travel suspension, they also simultaneously increased the track width of the vehicle because they used longer A-Arms. They most likely added spacers on the rear axle to match the track width of the front. That way they could use the stock width F-150 rear axle.
