a car audio place, and if I mention my trucks having issues, I get some good advice where to start, gleened some good tips on BBQ.

doesn't get any better than this.

Also some skilled welders, coffee nuts, gun collectors, and photography people. ;)

I don't know about skilled, but I do weld, gun collector/shooter, and I have done a lot of photography with old school film SLR's.

i can make metal things stick together, i enjoy a good cup of coffee, i have quite a few guns and generally hit what i'm aiming at and i suck at photography...

yep, pretty much sums this place up, lol...add in..

i have a mess of car audio equipment i will never use, testing equipment i didn't need, am a shadetree mechanic and don't have enough time to fully enjoy any hobby.

wow..

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

True, but they still don't flush worth a damn.

I'm still high from painting yesterday. It's sad. I'm in the bathroom putting on primer, and I can't even smell it with my mask on. I step out of the room take off the mask, and instant brain damage.

Oil based primer FTW

headache it gives me FTL

I've got to do the same soon.

Curious why you like the oil based?

Short answer.

Seals better than anything else. Get the kind that is awefull smelling too. It just works better. I have done tons of exterior painting, and every GREAT paint/primer I have used has been oil based. That's enough for me, but there is more to my issue than that.

Long answer.

:deep breath:

In this case, oil based primer is the only way to seal my walls anyway. With all the moisture in a bathroom that is your number one priority. In my situation the walls are unique material (gypsum with holes in it to duplcate lathe, then plaster, then a finishing compound similar to drywall mud) and there was vynal paper up with a really horrid latex under that in the bathroom. I couldn't strip all the paste and paper, and when I started to sand it off I got to what I beleive to be a shitty latex primer, or paint. It peels and rolls when sanding. Latex in a moist enviroment will always buble. I have never seen a latex paint work in a moist enviroment really. If I end up using a latex over the oil primer, I may be ok if it gets good adhesion. If I didn't use oil primer though it would pass moisture through the primer layer, it would contract and expand and mess with the bond of the wall and the primer and buble. It's a combination of the simple the fact oil and water don't mix, or the fact oil bonds better. I'm not sure, probably both. For me oil primer is the only thing that will bond if there is any past/glue residue, or paint. I could sand all the way to the plaster and remud and then maybe get away without oil based, but even then, I would still probably use an oil primer if it's still on the market by then. And it would be 10's of hours more. Since I will have company in 2 months and still need to patch 2 ponds, create a patio, somehow get my kitchen finished, and geta garden started, I need my time. It may be fuzy logic, but when I think about latex, all I need to do is use water to wash it away, if it gets on something. Oil, I need a specific type of chemical to remove it.

I'm sure in 2 years the wife will change out a sconce or a toothbrush holder, and want to repaint anyway, but I like to do things right either way.

;)

So I got an event coming up at the local track...should be a fairly fun event and I want to take the truck out. Well....a few weeks ago, due to my own stupidity, I blew my hub seals on my rear end...and due to me catching the fucking flu...and other shit...I never got around to fixing them. So this is the week OF and I need the damn seals, right?

So I call up AutoZone:

"Thank you for calling AutoZone, how can I help you?"

"Yeah, I'm looking for axle seals of a ford 9" rear end..."

"Oooh. umm...hold on a second...." and he puts me on hold.

....15 minutes later...someone ELSE picks up...

"...umm thank you for calling AutoZone, who are you holding for?"

"I'm holding for someone to help me find some axle seals..."

"Oh.. ummm. Huh.. hold on a second." and HE puts me on hold.

...10 minutes in, I'm getting pissed and I decide that this is a battle of wills. Them waiting for me to hang up....me waiting for them to get tired of the phone beeping and to pick up.

...10 MORE minutes....and I can feel my will about to give in completely to anger. FUCK THIS! While STILL on hold, I jump in my daily driver and drive my ass up to the AutoZone I'm on hold with!

I get there about 10 minutes later...and there's 4 fuckers working...and like two people shopping...and one of them hits me up instantly:

"Welcome to AutoZone, how can I help you?"

...as I walk behind their counter to look for their phone...

"Yeah....do you have someone on hold right now?"

"Uh excuse me?"

...I point at the blinking, beeping phone...

"DO...YOU...HAVE...SOMEONE...ON...HOLD...RIGHT...NOW!?"

"Uhh...I guess so."

"You guess so?? Let me help you. You DO have someone on hold...ME! I've been on hold for 45 fucking minutes! What in the HELL is THAT all about?? Can you give me one good reason why you've had me on hold for almost a fucking hour??"

"Well...uhh..I mean....uhhh...I was waiting for him (he points) to pick up.."

"He DID pick up...and put me right the fuck back on hold!"

"Uuhh..err....ahh...ummm..."

"Don't give me any bullshit about how busy you are...there's no one fucking in here! If my fucking question was simply too difficult for you, TELL me."

"Well...what do you need sir?"

"What I needed was axle seals...but what I need NOW is to talk to YOUR fucking manager."

"Yes sir."...and scampers off to get El Jefe....

Manager: "Yes sir, what seems to be the problem?"

...I tell him, "....and I'm STILL on hold!" That's right...I still haven't hung up...

He looks at the phone....picks it up...and says, "Uhh Autzone, may I help you?"

I yell into MY phone, "IT'S ME FUCKER!!!" He jumps and hangs up.

"I'm hoping that isn't your policy here! That if you CAN'T answer the question, just put the person on hold until they hang up?"

"Uh no sir!"

"Well lets see if y'all CAN help me...now that I'm here."

He goes over to the computer...

I tell him, "I need axle seals for a 31 spline ford 9" rear end."

"What's it out of?"

"Hell...i don't know? Almost any 70s ford truck I'm sure."

"Well I need to know what it's out of."

"I do not know..."

"Well what's it in now?"

"That's not gonna help you."

"Sure it is"

"No...it won't. There's no way to search for the rear end?"

"No...so what's it in?"

"A 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO ok?? Does THAT help???"

"No."

"See?"

He connected me with someone at another AutoZone that actually WAS helpful...and I went over there to get the parts...

:wacky:

Ah for a bathroom I guess that makes sense. The bathroom I am doing right now is just a water closet though so no real moisture without a shower or bath.

I doubt it would be needed then really Sean. Unless you had some powerfull thai food and your really breaking a sweat in there. :fing34: Oil is a pain to work with. I'm at work right now with white hands and arms because I forgot that I needed more mineral spirits. We have 3 adults and one bathroom.... That shower gets plenty of OT.

When I repaint my exterior, I will oil prime that too. I'm usually an over kill guy if there is a chance of a problem.

True, but they still don't flush worth a damn.

I've never had a problem with any American Standard toilet.

I will only use oil based primer as well, no matter the room.

My parents won't flush a tootsie roll and believe me in my house that is NOT sufficient.

I hate using a toilette that isn't worth a damn. Mine is one of those Low Profile ones. I sit with my damn knees in my chest, and I ALWAYS take a half time flush break.

Must be all that brisket and ribs....

laminate, Stone tile, or stone slab countertops.........

:suicide-santa:

I would never ever settle for anything less than stone for a kitchen. Any other room though, toss a coin

....See, I'm having an issue because I'm really cheep. And I need this done ASAP, I have to move onto other projects.

=)

Better to do it once than having to do it twice :gift:

This is true, and I don't like the idea of grout scrubbing.... That's why I like mica etc. Cheep easy to clean and care for, and if I don't like it... I can change it up. It's probably 10% of the cost of slab...;.

My parents had mica for 10-12 years when we built the house. They've wanted granite since about year 2 and finally got it a couple years ago.

so most definitely granite FTW!

I painted a trailer one time with just a dusk mask (yeah, no help at all) I honestly believe I got high. My buddy and I were painting and just laughing our asses off about everything... and I had a headache later

I finally started used a good mask with an organic filter for fiberglassing. Makes life soooo much better for me
