The only real weapon I want now is super long range accurate rifle. Probably bolt action. I

6.5-06 custom bolt gun and some damn good glass. If you are serious I can put you in contact with a guy who can build you one.

rather than a bmg?

I have absolutely no idea what side round that is or anything about it. Would it be viable for large game? I have honestly been thinking about going on a big game hunt some day. I have little to no experience with long range shooting. Farthest I have shot was ~350 yards on a calm day, so I don't really know what I should expect out of a rifle. So much gun smartness..

First off, what do you define super long range?

You do not want to shoot anything living that you care about with a .50BMG. That cartridge at 400yrds will take a decent sized whitetail doe, make it do 2 backflips, turn the insides to jelly, and make it look like someone took a 5gal bucket of blood and sprayed it out behind the deer.

a .300 wsm should be adequate for any game hunting in north america and most of the world for that matter. a 180gr at over 3000fps and 3800ft-lb of muzzle energy will do wonders on most big game.

So I just went to CA.com forums for the first time. "WOW" is all I have to say. Thank God this place isn't like that. I read 2 topics and got the hell out of there!

I did the same a few weeks ago and when I came back here I just felt dirty and used. I needed a little "me" time after witnessing so many verbal assaults. It's freaking romper room over there.

And I am going to give one of these - - to the gun convos as well. Closest I've ever come is launching potatoes with Axe spray.

I like shooting, but I just have never gotten really into it I guess. Last thing I shot was my buddies Ak-47. Cool gun, fun to shoot, but pretty much worthless when it comes to hitting a target...haha

....yeah, that's not so pretty. I was thinking more for moose/elk and other big game... but the mental image is nice.

In the year and a half I have been a member of this site, I have seen a slow degradation of maturity and effort in new posters.

It is extremely frustrating that this is true and hopefully we can get it righted, but it will take an effort from all of the moderators and not just a few.

Quoted for truth.

I admit I'm not the greatest at being a stickler yet, but I'm trying.... I agree that I don't like those types of threads though, very annoying.

:D Your .308 will do that fine. I was thinking out to 1000yrds and beyond.

A .308 will do 1000yrds, but you are looking at a lot of drop and a 6.5 bullet will buck the wind a lot better at those ranges.

I would love to shoot out that far.... just to try it, but I don't have many 1000 yard open lanes.

I'm a fan of overkill. Hence my desire for a big .50. If I ever want/need it... well, there is it.

I figured my .308 would be good out to 400 yards or so. I don't know how acurate the 16" m4 style barrel is. I honestly thought about getting a different upper with a longer barrel, I have to read up more.

Really just looking and toying with ideas. Sometime when it gets warm i'm going to take the ar over to WI where my buddies grandfather has a hundred or so acres to play on. I need some glass though. I would LOVE the trijicon one they snap onto the .308s that the military uses. Those are sexy.

In all these handgun convo's, I am lost.

You're not alone.....

I'm in there too. I've had several and shot a lot, but I still don't know shit about them.

I do know that the way this country is going, I am ready to start a stockpile.

^---this is my dishwasher. I love it very much. The fridge is good, the oven I'm not so excited about. The cabinets are not installed yet, as you can see, and no counter tops.

:D

We need to install the gas line for the cook-top soon too. Having a quality gas cook-top will make me one happy man. I haven't had decent cooking facilities in years. $$$ just pouring out into this project. Not to happy about that, but I got great deals on everything I have got so far accept the cabinets, and they are the only thing I'm pissed about so far. I want to do stone counter tops, but I'm not sure I'm ready to invest in it yet.

Here is a teaser of the coolest button I have ever pressed....

I would say I do 85% of the meal making at home.

I love to cook. I grew up using la creuset cookware, and I loved it ever since I was a kid. I have a pretty large extended family and when I was young I would help get food ready for thanksgiving Easter etc. Learning family foods. I have never seen a recipe for rye borscht the way we make it. It's extra sour, yum. Anyway. Yes I love to cook, and that set of cookware is more than the cost of my last car :D

I'm sure the wife worked Ebay magic though.

That is a nice engine start button huh? One of the coolest memories I have.
