Red is usually somewhere around a 1000 degrees F and white near 2300. With a real wok burner both are possible and in fact some Chinese style cooking techniques temperatures in the near 2000 deg mark. If you ask about how hot you can get one with a standard electric coil burner, good luck they really don't work for wok cooking and you are better off trying to stir fry in a piece of cast iron. With a professional gas range temperatues in the realm of 1k F are possible, but take a long time to get to. Exactly why I am going to build a wok burner stand for outside

Speaking of Woks, anyone know a good recipe for seasoning one? I'm picking a new one up this weekend, so that will be my objective for next week. Man, I'm getting old.

You really just have to get it really, really, really hot and then wipe it down with oil. Not so sure that a standard stovetop will get it hot enough though. If you have a turkey fryer I'd use that.

Of course it's steel. I got two of them before from the local college; they have a culinary arts class. They sell off all their unused utensils every semester and before leaving, they'd season it for me. I just have no idea what they used. I never asked them what they were were using, just what they were doing.

So my test drives were rather uneventful as the past few days have yielded nothing but torrential downpours, so it wasn't the best for performance tests aside from testing the AWD systems.

The Audi was very nice, but it has a quirkiness about it I am not ready for. Too many buttons and gadgets and no matter how I adjusted the seat, I could not get comfortable in the car. I loved the power and the Quattro, but all in all, not something I would buy.

The Charger was okay. I really like the looks, but aside from that, it left a lot to be desired. I like it's size, and my inability to really test its performance limits sucked, but I thought it would be a little more luxurious due to its size and all its appointments. Fit and finish were poor, but I went straight to this from the Audi, so I may have been hoping for more. I don't know how they rate on NVH, but this thing had several annoying squeaks and rattles from both the interior and the front end. I did like the fit and feel of the interior. My only gripe is the C-pillars were a huge blind spot issue. I would have really liked to flog this on a cool, dry day.

Now the Volvo I really liked. Like the others I've driven, this thing was dead quiet. There is no hint of 300HP what-so-ever. The AWD system was great, interior was great, it was very roomy, and drove excellent. I think these have the Haldex AWD system, and while it is nice, it seems a little too biased at the front. It could have just been the wet conditions and the TC acting up, but it presented a small amount of torque-steer I did not expect. Overall, this was my best experience of the day, but like the Audi, it has some quirky things I don't like. It must be the European influence.

4 year old Audi compared to a brand new Dodge, I don't think it is too much to ask for good quality craftsmanship. If you are looking at the Audi, have you considered a 325iX ?

No, I haven't. Maintenance money on the Bimmers are out of my range, and if I were to get one, it would be just RWD.

My M5 and 328i were creampuffs for maintenance, cheapest two cars I have ever owned for that purpose actually.

rough week it sounds like. I'm going to tear it down as gentle as possible but eventualy it will be canabilized. Maybe make a nice kitchen table. If I trimmed in some of the spots and put a huge oak top on it I could probably sell that for a few grand

I was just wondering because I was told you could take a red hot iron skillet off the stove and put it on a granite/soapstone/concrete countertop with no ill effect. Didn't make any sense to me because concrete gets pink at uh...600F right? Never messed with granite or soapstone though...
