Didn't the laptop replace the calculator about 10 years ago???

Calculators still have some advantages :)

Besides size, I fail to see the advantage. Even when I went to college, we no longer used them...

At least in my classes, laptops aren't allowed for exams :)

Anything more than the basic scientific calculator wasn't allowed in any of mine.

who here is running 701 with a double din alpine unit? If i go TC i'll be going that route so i can actually use all the crap i have sitting around. That would unfortunately involve getting rid of the 9861

Can the 9861 control the H701 ?

not very well, really it is best to just change presets with it and have the controller elsewhere

And since that is the case, might as well get a less expensive Alpine HU, since all of them can change the presets, sub level & volume. Unless of course you need DVD playing capability or optical signal.

ishboo :(

Fricking Jeep dash. Need to measure how tall is an Alpine flip-out screen and see if I could squeeze it in :D

the 9861 would work fine for you, like sean said, it doesn't do it well, but what that means is that it's a complicated thing that takes time to do through the unit. The controller is actually very small and you could plug it in to set it up then just unplug it and stick it in the glove compartment. From there the 9861 would be fine for manually tweaking a setting now and again.

If it's not too complicated it should be ok...I mean I'm not changing things around too often. I have seen the control from the d105...easy as pie :)

If I would find a 9861 locally I could install the controller in the glove compartment...since I'm not using it at all.

But first I need to get rid of this sub amp. I'm just asking around so I know what I shoulc keep an eye out for :)

Yeah we passed 80% the other day, and I did a number of backups in the last few days jumping us up somewhat.

Size is a HUUUGE advantage. Calculators are much more durable and cheaper to replace. (I've had the same calculator for 5 years now and its lived in my backpack and survived. No way in hell a computer would have lasted.) Also, much easier to use as the layout is designed for it. I couldn't imagine wanting to do a problem and waiting for windows to boot up before I used a calculator, or having to deal with the program lagging because you were using your computer for other things at the time. On laptops you would need a num pad as well or using it as a calc would be hell. Batteries last a lot longer as well.

Need any more reasons?

my first class today was just as stupid as I thought it was going to be, it's a freshmen level class that's also a bio requirement for ME's, the prof is a bitch with a really obnoxious voice

but then I had Vibration Analysis and Experimental ME which seem to have potential for being interesting and the profs being cool

and WTF is with the alergies this year. I have NEVER had them before, but this year it's so bad it's making me have something like lock jaw.

I feel you. I've never had them before either. But now if I don't take an allergy pill my eyes get puffy and itchy, and not to mention runny nose. The worst is that if I don't take my allergy pill I'll get so much drainage into my stomach while I sleep that when I eat breakfast in the morning I'll get nauseous. That was the weirdest thing to try and figure out. I'd be sick for days.

I'm older than the TA who's teaching my accounting class :( I'm one of only a handful of people out of 50 who have a major, the rest are 2nd-year general business or totally undeclareds.

I've been here too long...
