Does anyone know anything about cameras? I'm buying my fiance a digi cam, because I want to, kind of an engagement present to her, but early as hers is crap.

I'm looking at

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...delTechSpecsAct

or

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...delTechSpecsAct

Both in the price range online, the new one is cheeper, and has more mega pixels... but only by 20% and that doesn't seam to be that much if the image is not as clear or has more noise in it. Can anyone shed some light and tell me a good reliable place to buy for cheep? Non ebay maybe.

Work on my Blazer pretty much stops until Thursday. I have to drop it off to have the door pins and bushings replaced...the doors sag pretty bad right now. There goes another $200 :(

I need to replace a hose coolant and power steering fluid hose.

Both are going to be very nice cameras. If you want to play with them in person, your local Circuit City should have both of them on display. I'd pick the Rebel XSi over the 40D just because I can't justify spending the extra money for the 40D.

Also don't forget, you'll need to buy an SD card with either camera you pick. I suggest either the SanDisk Ultra or Extreme...the size is up to you. The Ultra and Extreme have faster write times so they're good if you take a lot of action pictures.

Any particular use for the camera or just a regular every day one?

The best investment you can do for a SLR is invest in good glass.

Digital cameras...blah

I'd get something that would do well in RAW mode, would be my only input on that :)

Indeed.

And Canon happens to make a very good, f1.4 50mm prime :)

I can't say I've used either one, but just remember ...

More megapixels is NOT necessarily a good thing. It has to be implemented properly and you have to have a need for more to be of any value. For example, if you print posters or like to crop out large portions of your photos, a higher-resolution sensor is definitely something that will benefit you (again, if the manufacturer implements it properly).

The most important part to good photos are the lenses you use and, of course, the user's ability to select the right lens, settings, and composure for the shot.

Plus you won't spend all day waiting for them to upload to your computer.

Thanks for that info! I can't make much sense of it though. I know nothing about camera's.

I have never had any interest.

As to the Toyota Recall.....they will give the person whos truck fails....150% of exc. RETAIL for it....PLUS a $1000 extra rebate towards a new Tacoma....I know I have worked some that they are giving STUPID amounts of money for these things...wow...

hmmmmmmmmmm years?

I may find one cheap here LOL

1995-2000 models...........if you buy one now you would only get 100% of KBB since the recall has been announced

used.........sell it to the dealer and get 100% KBB

You would need to find one with a rusty frame though, which might be somewhat difficult to locate here in AZ

The tool shop where they built all their machines was pretty cool. They even build their specialty CNC machines in house.

sounds freakin' sweet :)

I would probably like film more myself Jim, but she's the boss, and likes to use photoshop, well she's learning it from her friend who does Photoshop for a living.

I didn't think mega pixels were everything especialy at such a small percentage. She says she likes to make big prints though so it matters I guess. And one website review said it had processing capable of keeping up and as good of imaging as the more expencive d series.

I'm lost... she has tons of lenses between her and her dad, but I think she gave choices to me because I'm Mr. techno guy and I would know something... which I do not.

lol

so I ask you for help, so I can take credit and be the hero getting her the best camera. She loves to shoot pics and has always wanted digital SLR, she has 2 regular SLR already I guess.
