About every part of me wants to keep my EC 90 model Chevy so when I get out of college I can lift it about 3" (2wd) rebuild the engine, maybe stroke it to 383, and add a SC to it. I know engine cost alone would probably be about 4K (w/o labor) and i need around 1K in body work and paint. Sludge and overkill the interior, put descent size tires on it and have a really fun beach truck.

mmm sounds so good

Bah, who needs horsepower? I could go every place that would be able to go in a diesel 'Mog, with better fuel economy ;) Just a lot slower :D

Its all about the torque....literally and figuritively....

Wooot

Picked up some 11.5:1 pistons for the Neon, plus some oiling system parts I needed for a uber good price.

Turbos are no less reliable than a NA engine. It's all in the tuning. OEM turbo-equipped vehicles in the late 80s and 90s, and to this day have proven this. If people were having issues with turbocharged engines, it was due to poor maintenance, and that is the key.

Denim, I don't know why heat was an issue with your Merkur. Both my XR7 Cougar and Turbo coupe T-bird had the same engine and I never had an issue with heat. Hell, there were numerous times when I'd pop the hood after a nice spirited drive to see the manifold glowing bright red, yet it never presented any issue.

As for you comment on power linearity, those smaller engines will run with a design for quick spooling. Much like a diesel, they are designed for lower end power and will taper off once the revs increase. They could have easily spec'd out a turbo for a more linear power band, but was it needed for the intent of the vehicle design?

I thought you were boosting this thing?? What's your goal for static?

I was going to boost, then I changed my mind in December.

Quick engine rundown:

2.4L Dodge engine overbored .020 (stock is 2L)

SRT-4 rods

11.5:1 Wiseco .020 pistons

Crane "22" high lift, long duration cams

Crower valve springs

Race ported head, upgraded lifters & rockers

Crankscraper oil control system (windage tray, baffled oil pan, crankscraper)

SRT-4 oiling system

Long tube header, 1.75" diameter 27" long primaries, 3" merge collector, 3" cutout dump off of collector.

AEM cam gears

30# injectors

UDP

Figuring out what I want for an intake still, probably ported out stock with the 90 degree elbow on the TB size removed & plenum size increased, 60mm or 65mm TB likely, 3" intake.

Removing A/C, might keep P/S.

Using a Megasquirt standalone engine management system.

Should be good for nearly 210-220whp, 180-190wtq. In a 2500lb car, should be lots of fun & capable of 12s in the 1/4 if I can drive it.

Dyno of a friend's car, almost the same specs:

on The Z that is.

does anyone know what kind of oil the Chevy dealership uses on the 5.3 silverados? My truck has had every oil change at the dealership prior to me owning it, but there is no way I can afford that...

That's one quick little car. Should be a blast when it is all done.

The non circular speakers I'll probably just trash or sell, the circular ones will be line arrays or OB or something like that. So if anyone wants some just shout out. :)
