guy at work...you all can look him up, james herren street a world champ 2004, finished 7th last year (blown amp/bad battery) talks more shit then anyone i know...

wants to put on the gloves with me..thinks i'll chase him around the ring and get tired. i tell him my game plan "bro, i'm gonna take all your little jabs, stay right in the center of the ring and wait. you'll screw up, get cocky (won't take long) and then i'll put you outa my misery." he thinks he's just too quick and he's absolutely full of himself..hehe..i can't wait.

know how to shut up a world champion? challange him to a personal dbdrag event. only not let him use ANY vehicle currently in dbdrag. matter of fact, the challange went like this...

JH (james herren) " i can get 5 dbs louder then you in any car"

me "ok...let's do it then"

JH " my mountaineer against your silverado"

me "whoa..you said ANY car. so let's make it absolutely fair, and rely only on the box builders skill and not db drag tricks. so, there is a 198something malibu parked out side. one run of 4 guage wire, one memphis mc1100d, same subs and we each build a box and get three runs."

JH " i need a week to test with the vehicle"

me "nope, run what you brung boy. put up or shut up. your that much better then me..prove it. straight up. no bs, no tricks. let's see who's the better builder. you can be 5 dbs louder no matter what, show me."

JH "if you let me have the car, i'll get you by 7"

me " if your so damn good, you'll get me by 7 without the car. free air. so what's wrong? without the deck stacked in your favor, you sure aren't as cocky"

JH " i can beat you"

me "let's do it. scott will let us use the malibu"

JH "but i need the car for a week"

me "nope. if your so damn great, you'll build the better box. hell, we're using the subs you compete with. it's not like you don'tknow what they want. quit being a bitch and bring it"

JH "without testing there is no telling what will happen"

me " no shit? that's exactly my point. your not all that when the field is even. kinda brings ya down a bit, huh?"

JH "no, i'm still louder then you, no matter what"

me "only in your car. give me a year of playing with a mountaineer, who knows? you don't. i don't. you coud very well still be louder, but you might not. end result is this, h2h, unknown car, you don't know who's louder. do you? all your arrogance amounts to what? nothing. either build or be quit"

we haven't talked about it since...

hehe

Srv's original band " Stevie ray vaughn and the cobras" did play some jazz. And quite well I might add :)

True, but names like:

Wes Montgomery

John McLaughlin

Paco de Lucia

Django Reinhart

Joe Pass

Grant Green

Barney Kessel

Trump the rock genre. Jimi I have the ultimate respect for though, his music was the most original of its time and if he wouldn't have died he probably could have developed into being on that list.

Never heard em, I myself played classical guitar for 12 years. Teaches you around the fretboard and music, thats for sure.

Mclaughlin plays all types of music, if you enjoy overly in your face guitar you might like him. Started out making himself known for playing music with Miles Davis--they defined free jazz pretty much which is the basis for all jam band rock. Then moved to fusion, rock, classical, combinations of all the above you name it. He can pretty much listen to any solo about three times that any of the guys on your list has ever played and then play it note for note without the hiccups that they might have had. The guys has insane chops. It doesn't mean I like all of his albums though.

I'd like the guitar better without the electric orchestra.
