Sorry to hear that Jmac, you do seem like a good person and all, so you shouldnt be going through that, sounds like it sucks, I feel for you. How long will this be lasting?

Is going somewhere else still feasible?

Until the end of the month at least ...

i think You're best to ttake that offer... even if it's for a week or two. the situation thats brewing is only going to escalate unless something is done.

fudge I hate UPS, with a firey passion.. After paying $380 CDN for my amp im hit with $105 in brokerage fees, so after almost chitting myself, I thought whatever I will take my time to pay it (like my fedex scenerio, they mailed me a bill and a month later I paid it) not having experiance with UPS the guy comes to my door and asks for $105.. I say "you want me to whip out $105 on the spot??" meanwhile I have $1.60 in my bank account from paying for the amp in the first place. So hes coming back tomorrow (payday) and my $160 paycheck is going to be consumed instantly by brokerage fees, gasoline, and beer.

[/rant]

p.s. its going to be a long ass time before I order something across the border. I was thinking it would be $20. :(

Now I understand why my house blew a 400A panel after supposedly passing "inspection".

"Professionals"...heh.

How the hell did you get a 400 amp service installed in a house? 200 amp is the highest codes allows, unless something has changed in a couple weeks.

News for you chipitole fanboys:

I don't know whether that is good or bad. The food will be more mass produced, but there will be more places to get it.

As long as the quality and portions stay the same i have no problems.

I just hope they make one where i am

Or don't chit though the gouging bastards called UPS & Fedex.

USPS Air my friend, only way to ship something across the border (they charge $5 brokerage, maximum).

Also have to remember that you have to pay GST and any provincial tax when it crosses the border.

I thought the NEC specified 200A as minimum for residential use, but put no caps on the upper limit...I'm probably wrong about that though.

All I know is my parent's place has a 400A single-phase panel for the main service, and a 100A auxiliary panel that's patched in to the generator.

200 is the minimum. Any more and they are supposed to install another service. I'll have to check on that tomorrow though.

400 amps is getting into the commercial zone though. That's got to be a mighty expensive service there. . . Better hope nothing goes wrong with that main breaker. It'll be a nice little chunk of change.

On a lighter note, thanks for posting that CA.com link. It's taking up too much of my valuable time. :P

That's koo! Sergey turned mine around in less than a week. It was a total of 1.5 weeks including shipping time. I couldn't have asked for more.

As for the rep thing, that's Nick's bag.

Yeah, the entire house was spec'd to be way overbuilt :) 12awg where only 14awg Romex was called for, etc, etc...you could probably run a plasma torch and not get a voltage drop on the second floor...

Too bad the structural elements need work, like the chimney supports were built wrong and now need to be rebuilt as water flows under the flashing and has ruined the drywall underneath

And there's the small matter that the front door is currently 15 feet off ground level. Oh well.
