fucking love Offspring

They just keep on jamming. Splinter, Days go by. I saw some pictures from a concert they had last year in Rome, and it looked awesome.

.....I keep shopping and shopping and comparing prices..... depending on a few things I think I may end up with a sako TRG 42 in 338 LM. The .300WM is belted and reloading is near as close as makes no difference to .338LM. The .308 is not in the cards. I already have a semi auto for that. So for $3000 MSRP here is what I am thinking....

Nonsense overkill, but it meets every requirement I have and is a chassis I know I am comfortable with and can change LOP and cheek weld height. It may even be something I could put on a more "modern" chassis if I want later. The truth is though the TRG is so close to perfect because it has so little to catch on shit and is simle. The savage 110BA is an example of a modern chassis that just got it all wrong.

Sako actions feel great.

The trigger is great and not a super light match triger. I have found on super light match trigers, unless I am benched up, makes me nervous. The 2 stage style is a feature IMHO as long as the break is crisp and short.

BBL will be great from the get go, as should everything be ready right out of the box. The biggest fail is that the twist is a 1:10 and not a 1:9 that would stabilize the heavy bullets better.

The only other 2 out of the box options are AI, Savage, or the funky Blaser. The AI is 6k used and abused or over 8k new. The normal thumb hole chassis might be a problem for me with my fucked up hand shape. So 2k more, but still an unknown chassis that may need to be replaced. The savage would need a new chassis instantly. I have used the one for on that system and I really hate it. So 1800 for the gun then another 1000 for it to be set up in a new chassis. Then the goofy space gun blaser. It actually feels great... but is over 4k and never find it used.

The funny thing is that the caliber I choose doesn't affect the price of the type of gun I want. In general I haven't been a fan of r700 action/triger set ups. Savage is a little better. The accutrigger I think makes me feel better so it is overall more friendly. I also think the BBL nut thing is brilliant. So they wow me with smart engineering but the actions definitely don't feel as "solid".

Even if I was happy with them, neither come on a chassis I like.

So then it is buy a whole gun and redo everything or get a custom action like Surgeon and build from that. Surgeons wait time is absurd, but it is what it is. Shillen actually has a really reasonable price on barreled actions. All the features of savage with a r700 mounting base and bbl nut set up in a much more solid and trued action. Sounds perfect right.... well, I don't think he makes actions for anything bigger than a 308 bolt face. So no WSM. And that means I would still want 2 guns. And even if I went ultra cheep on a hunting rig I wouldn't be familiar with it.

I think that buying a big bolt magnum, and making my AR 10 the best it can be, is the best option for me. At least financially.

I should have won the lotto. Free AI's for everyone.

That sako looks nice right out the door. Stock reminds me of the B&C tactical medalist 5.

How far out do you want to shoot, and at what MOA do want the rifle capable of? I mean it sounds sorta nuts to spend 6k on the rifle.

I bet I could swap my barrel, replace the trigger, chassis, and plus the cost of the rifle be under $2500, and I can't imagine it not doing what you want. :shrugs:

If I remember properly, the TRG-42 replacement parts are virtually impossible to find.

I love Sako/Tikka, but why do you want to spend so much money? I could see it if you were really shooting match/professionally, but really?

It isn't all about the gun, it is really about the shooter. An old neighbor of mine used to blabber about his $8,000 match skeet shotgun. We went out shooting, him with his pricey shotgun and me with my old Ithaca Model 37. I schooled him. No, I am not an amazing shot, but I have been shooting that gun forever.

Though I could definitely understand spending a TON on glass, as a friend once taught me. :P

Find me something in an adjustable stock with a repeater action and box magazine that is a 7mm WSM or better, non belted round, for less than 3000 and I will be all up in it's grill!

Glass is important. If you can't see, you can't shoot.

3k sounds a lot better than 6k. That extra 3k can buy a mistress.
