Speaking of cars. Parked mine today, and noticed a puddle of oil. Thought: "motherfucker." Lifted the hood, dipstick was hanging out, and had a bunch more cactus dragged in.

Would have just slapped the old ones back in, but of course in classic Sean fashion I cracked the rotor removing the caliper. Little lip + powdered metal = brittle.

How in the fuck does one crack a rotor removing pads? I have been doing this for almost a decade longer than Stefan has been alive and I have never cracked a rotor removing pads... I have cracked rotors trying to beat them off a frozen spindle, and even had to cut Ford rotors off with a torch (horrible design), but just removing pads?

Its an even better question once the size of these rotors has been seen.

I have just knocked the caliper off with a mallet. Perhaps I should have changed them before they got that worn. A few mm lip on both sides and big pads and pistons and there is a little pressure.

Seriously that little chip would have made no difference. It wasn't even enough to cause a balance issue. And believe me, the hydraulic pressure in a brake system would be plenty to get that car to stop. There is a huge amount of pressure in that system.

Realize I am captain overboard. I wasn't concerned with balance, but when that piece just fell off it didn't make me want to just slap things back on. And the Benz pads at $177 were only $30 more than the ones I could find online. Unique rear calipers to that car and only a few others make the parts stupid expensive.
