What would be an average number to shoot for vent mach?

WinISD suggests under 0.16 which is ~54 m/s, but that seems high from everything I've read.

Also read an article from the peeps at JBL about doing 10 m/s to reduce any port compression--IIRC.

I'm thinking 25-30 m/s for an average, and perhaps less if it's SPL oriented?

I'm playing with the idea of making a gigantic calculator for the average people who post the same stuff day in and day out.

Input partial t/s specs of driver, driver displacements, power, max dimensions, desired tuning, and an adjustable (though initially set) vent mach.

Calc comes up with required port area, port length, and net volume for end result.

Somewhat variable. I refuse to rule of thumb. That being said exceeding 30m/s isn't something I'd do

Of course what you could do is give them a check box with three choices. 10m/s, 30m/s, and 50m/s

Reason being if someone isn't regularly wailing on something and can deal with a little port noise/compression when they do the higher velocity might be fine. Personally my shit is never maxed so it probably wouldn't matter.

Make sure that you call the H Inn and tell them that you are working with XXX. Where XXX is the biggest company near that H Inn. Guarantee the corporate rate will save you $$$

That's what I was thinking. In my last enclosure I never heard any port noise, but it didn't have a port either. :P

Your away from home the majority of the year, correct?

I wouldn't mind seeing different parts of the world, but too long away from home would be hard I imagine.

Call me ignorant, but as I was reading on SiN at one point and there was a good recommendation of going with 1/3 of Sd for daily and 2/3 of Sd for SPL setups.

Almost all the boxes I've built had at least 1/3 of Sd and currently all my good SPL setups are over 2/3 of Sd. With mine having almost as much port area as cone area.

Sd is only part of the picture though. That rule is estimating an average for the displacement.

What's the volume or displacement of a cylinder with a diameter of 10"? The height might be 1" or 4".

Sean, you had the original JBL GTI 15's, can you recommend an enclosure ? I need to shoehorn 2 of them in a Z3 coupe.

First gens' with the folded surround? Basically a pro audio driver so shoehorning into a Z3 really isn't going to happen.

Yeah, 1500gti.

As far as I could tell and simulate, I can fit a 5 cube sealed box, which should yield a qtc of 0.65 with 2 1500 gti's

It's a Z3 coupe :)
