I am not ready to turn the heat on!

That is one great thing about Texas. When winter comes electric bills are tiny because you can normally just leave the windows open. If it's cold you can cook chili and bake some corn bread and that will likely provide enough heat. At night a big war comforter is sufficient.

This is like your winter currently here in PA.

EBC Yellow. As far as my research goes, the Reds have poor cold braking performance, they are a track oriented pad. Yellows are better all around. Yellows will squeal for ~500 miles (that's what reports say) and they are dusty.

Hey Stefan, I'm not sure where you posted it, but did you say that your computer boots through a flash drive and if you don't plug in the flash drive it boots a clean copy of Windows?

I'm curious because I was wondering where you computer stores data with the flash drive plugged in and if it stores it on the Hard Drive is it accessible or visible at all through the windows side.

I was thinking that it would be cool to set up some very specific system that I could run from multiple computers. I remember reading that you can use a computer as an extra WAP or I could setup a slim version of Linux with any data I may need, or that allows me access to things I couldn't get on others computers.

If I could make it work I could store it all on a 4gb micro SD and with simple adaptors I could run it via USB or SD Card slot in a Raspberry Pi computer (something I've been looking for a reason to buy.)

The computer has one internal hard-drive, completely partitioned for windows os.

With the usb thumdrive plugged in, I select it for booting (same as you would with a CD), and the comp runs the Linux os from the thumbdrive.

Any files that are created under the Linux os, are stored on the thumbdrive until reboot (then gone).

You can make the usb thumbdrive os persistent, so anything saved during the session is still there after rebooting, I just don't have it configured that way.

By default, when the linux os is running, the internal hard-drive is unmounted, so nothing is stored to it. However, I can simply double click on it for mounting, and the windows partition is available for reading and writing.

Anything that I need to save, I save to a separate microsd card so it isn't tied to the computer.

I'm not entirely sure what your trying to accomplish. If your trying to store data, and make it secure and hidden then you could make an encrypted linux style partition (windows wouldn't see it), and the only way to access it is through a linux os with sufficient credentials (whether the linux os is installed on another partition on the computer, or simply running from a thumbdrive).

The Raspberry Pi comes with a Debian based os, or you can run Arch linux, or any arm based linux distro, so it's definitely going to have functionality, but I still don't know exactly what you would be trying to do with it.

Maybe, i was just trying to feel like James Bond. On all my "work" computers I can do anything I want to (mostly because I wouldn't do anything past regular surfing), but it would be cool to grab a friends comp, throw in a stick and boot up something with all of my info to scare them or do something cool.

Lol, then in that case you could do a persistent os install on a thumbdrive. You'd have to check their bios, and make sure removable media / usb has a higher boot priority then their hdds.

One thing I do want to do that doesn't really have anything to do with the previous posts is I would like to make my own cloud drive. I'm not sure what it would take but their would be a range of features I would hope to come up with.

1. Pretty much all Dropbox features. Syncing, auto updating files, sharing specific synced folders with friends etc... But add in a way that I could share only certain info with my own certain computers would be nice (this is not particularly easy on dropbox).

2. The ability to visit my own site online to download anything to other computers (again like Dropbox) or the ability to share a url with someone so they can easily download a file (I know you have done this for me Stefan).

3. It would also be great if I could remotely delete everything from my computers or remotely add an encrypted password if a computer was taken (This would probably be hard because you could block the device from accessing the internet if stolen).

4. This would all be on my server, with capacity only limited by my hard drives and I could always make backups weekly in such a way that isn't cumbersome to me.

I would use my old laptop as the server set up in what ever fashion would make it possible.

I assume I would only have to enter "setup" before the system boots correct?

It may just work without entering the bios setup, but if it doesn't, then you'll have to enter the bios during comp startup and check the boot priority and change if need be. Once the boot priority is changed, it'll stay that way.

I wouldn't use a laptop, or any computer at home for that because depending how many people are connecting, your internet speed is going to suffer, your isp may be nosy, and it opens up your local network. If your only sharing a few things to a few people, and everything is setup correctly then it can work, but I'd opt for something else.

I would get a VPS account, and you could make it do anything your heart desires. Setup apache webserver for providing web links to files. Create individual login accounts for people (each would have specific access).

When I have some free time I'm going to setup something similar, so I could help once mine is working.

Am I nuts? Way cheaper than OE stuff and I figure as good. Way open to saving money here as this is actually mine. *pukes*

Link no workie from my phone.

That's why I listed part nubmers.

1) Is parts geek ok

2) Centric rotors ok

I assume yes to both, but I don't buy brakes so often smile.png

Centric rotors are okay for a Camry. Wouldn't put them on the Benz. Brembo should be OEM IIRC. Have you tried Rock Auto?

Why are you wanting such an aggressive pad? I had the Greens on the Cobra and they worked wonders and that's their street pad.

I had tried 2 months ago when I first searched and of course now Rock stock's those Centric Premium's and a Ferodo. I figured the Premium would be better. 350mm FR and 330mm RR so there aren't too many choices.

As for the pads, the stock ones are super aggressive. I was hoping to get away with Red, never thought about softer. Have to last 12,000mi though so I can sell it otherwise I don't give a shit.

Rock also has some cheapo's, but not sure I trust Centric pads, Juric, or Bendix. Have Raybestos for $30 though...

I have Centrics on the Camry, but only because they were cheap. For my "normal" cars I like to use Satisfied products. For my performance vehicles, I like Brembo rotors if they fit, and Hawk or EBC pads depending on the need.

One thing I didn't like about the Brembo rotors I have now on the Jeep is that they are thicker on the hub flange side than OEM rotors and thus the wheel doesn't sit on the hub center anymore :(

Wells Fargo has kept prompting me to change my password, and I keep clicking "next time." Finally it says I have to do it, and under the guidelines it lists: "Cannot contain nine or more numbers."

WTF. Why the fuck not. Oh and it's limited to 14chars. Why put a length limit on a password, so they can save a KB of data storage?

Fuckers.

If you have an extra pc you could install a linux server distro, set everything up locally, and see how it does. Then do the same on a vps.

My extra PC is my old laptop. :) I'll talk to my roommate some more, he has been dabbling in that area lately.

Same. Plus I never really had a need for it. Although I did jailbreak my ipod touch years ago, and that was nice.

It is purely my fault. I just didn't make a backup or leave a .zip on the memory that I know works. Otherwise it would be a reflash and done.
