No need to feel bad unless you don't send it my way. :)

So this weekend I got to go on a dove hunt in Uvalde. I freaking love bird hunting, and especially, dove hunting because the weather is perfect (in the 60's and not freezing) you don't have to sit still like deer hunting and shooting dove to me is like playing a first person shooter where your only job is to shoot things out of the sky, and you get to eat when your done.

Now though, my shoulders (yes both) are freaking sore. I shot so much left handed that I started alternating left and right each hunt to allow my left shoulder time to recover.

By the way, I love my Benelli Nova Pump. Such a beast in the field.

So I know you guys made a strong argument for SSD not truly being worth more than HDD, but damn I want one. If anything I would at least want a Seagate Hybrid

I love SSD. Blindingly fast. Insanity. If you read the functional paperwork on how they work SSD will actually last longer. And it is more durable and creates less heat and uses less power.

The downside is if you put something critical on one, and it shits the bed it is gone. Ultra gone. No backsies.

So what is the moral of the story? If you need something kept, run a mirror of HHDs. Media uou can't get back, other things you NEED to have stored. Games that you can patch and re download can all go on your SSD.

I also just read a paper about how and when drives fail. It was a real trip. Drives in a RAID of any kind fail at the extact same time. Much much more than is statistically calculated. It was a really interesting paper. So even if you are mirroring a couple giant media platter drives they still have a high chance of them going kaput at the same time. As in within minutes or hours.

It was weird. Now obviously in mirror or striped RAID the drives get, near as makes no difference, the same use. But 2 drives in equal but separated systems will have a huge variance of how and when they die. But for some reason in a RAID they go together. It is like they watch a buddy die and they just don't want to go on sending data.

That is life cycle. Failures on latest techology drives fail due to not being able to truly produce what they would like.

The ability for quick startups, better gaming, better battery life, and quieter.

That being said, booting from sleep isn't too bad, I haven't installed a game yet, battery life is amazing, and I've never heard my hard drive...

With my drives in a RAID the windoss 7 install took under 7 min, and I start up in under 5 seconds assuming no error messages.

It's a laptop. Startup is resume time and the difference there is rather negligible.

Not saying there isn't an improvement, but if I were to drop a couple hundred bucks on my laptop to upgrade it that wouldn't be where I'd spend my money.

I'd also seriously doubt any gaming benefit on a laptop as again it isn't truly the stumbling block.

Any reason to not buy an ASUS Zenbook?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230171

I currently only have 108gb drive on my laptop, sure I'd like more for music but that fuxors me into a power hog.

Primary goals: travelability, good screen

Uses: Office/Powerpoint and Internet

Processor is slower than what i currently have but I'd take battery life, less heat and lighter weight as the compensators. Plus at $1k I can buy a new one in a year.

Without really diving deep into it Sean I think it is a good buy.

Herenis something I will say about SSD for you, on average you can get an extra 30-40 min batterw life by using an SSD. They use about half the power....

Finally, if that is your budget for one year, then it is the best deal ever. The the way the tik/tok development is going with processors I would trade in ever year if I could. My current PC build has that in mind. As soon as new processor tech comes out and is somewhat proven I will OC my processor until it sizzles. I already have it OCed at about 25% or more.

The only thing that would bother me is the CPU power and the price.

For comparison, here is my new laptop (vs the proposed). 2nd gen i5 2.4GHz (1.7), 640 HDD (128SSD), 5600 mAh battery (6840 mAh) [mine still last for 7hours], 1.66 kg (1.3kg), 1.9 cm (1.3 cm) $540 ($1005)

So for twice the price you lose a lot of processing and storage, but also lose a little weight and thickness, and gain some battery.

Looked at that in person, screen sucks donkey dick in comparison.

That's actually my biggest problem. Saw the IPS screen on it and pretty much everything else looks like shit.

In particular a bitch on a plane with window glare or reduced light. Eye's get fatigued.

And anything glossy is out from the get go.

My budget may get peeled back once i ask for it. :P Then I may have to compromise. So I am VERY interested in the compromises up front so I'm prepared once I have the interaction.
