Welcome to the IHoP

I am just thinking about past wall installs here and the quickrete tubes from Home Depot come to mind. They have them in a variety of sizes. On the downside they tend to be rather heavy. What kind of maximum weight are we looking here? I know with you this is a moronic question, but does Sound Quality take a backseat to 'balls' for this install?

J

Quickcrete tubes will fail in water and these will get rained on a lot. I can glass them, but then I'll have HOURS into finish work and they'll still look like shit. tongue.png Weight is no problem at all. That tower has to deal with me pulling on it which easily puts 400lbs of force if not more on it. SQ with balls sir.

I BELIEVE JL Audio or Kicker made a bar tube for a loud stereo on the water. While a loaded version of this may not be up the 'SQ with balls' alley, it might provide the enclosure for you to load with your own speakers. I'll do some digging over lunch.

J

Thanks J. Plenty of enclosures I could buy, but they are fucktastically expensive. That and usually geared towards 6.5" drivers, if I can stomach it I want 10's. :) Figured 4 pro audio 10's and a horn and that shit might be loud!

These are the defacto standard

And people usually run between 3 and 6 sets! I'm planning a budget build to smoke these.

Does Ikea have any salad bowls or something along those lines to use as enclosures?

I figured a cylinder would be the best. I need around .6-.7 cuft. 10" diameter ~13-14" long. Birch cap on both ends and bam.

Love all the ideas. Thanks guys. Completely open to more. PVC is winning atm :)

No, I don't need to pay markup for an off the shelf driver from someone else.

What about those cheap small stainless trash cans? Brace the inside with wood. Build your baffles and glass and you're good to go.

The issue with sonotube is both sides are waxed and you have to get through that before painting or glassing. Actually they weather quite well as long as you seal the edges. They can sit outside at jobsites for quite some time before being affected..

I might throw up some other goodies, such as:

Dayton RS180's

Dayton RS28a

Seas Excel W18

Seas CA18RNX

Alpine XT19 variant

Have some more, just having a brainfart. Open to getting rid of anything.
