I've had my Boilers license in MN since 1991, but haven't used it in 5 years. I'd like to solve that and figure its time to own instead of beg.

This might be a stupid question, but what will you do with it? Just use it like any other modern tractor?

LOL. I'd store it here: http://www.rollag.com/index.php and run it for four days a year during the show. Have some stellar memories growing up there spending time with my father and I'd like that to continue both with him and my children.

I would kill to see something like that around here. Throw in some locomotives and scantily clad women and I'd be in heaven.

I'm looking to begin to learn to weld.. Is mig welding a good start?

Start out with brazing, then move on to stick/arc, then move to MIG. I would get on some welding forums. You're either good at it or you're not. There's no such thing as a mediocre welder.

Thanks, I'm going to look into a cheap arc welder from HF and go from there. :drink40:

So, Sean, that's what you do when boating?

No, this is what he does

No.

Buy an old lincoln stick welder. Find a buddy who can actually weld, not just says he can, or take some night classes at the local community college. You are not going to be able to teach yourself welding. You need someone to tell you what you are doing wrong.

Don't bother with Harbor Freight. Check your local Craigslist and get a good Lincoln or Miller. You should be able to find one under $100 and it should come with the stinger and cabling. One of the most important things is to make sure your electrodes are kept dry and at a stable constant temp, but you'll get into that the more you learn.

And R2 beat me to it. If you were close to me, I'd let you have one my two Lincoln's that have been sitting for the past 7 years.

And mig and tig is a totally different world. I can stick weld like a pro, but when it comes to mig and tig, I totally suck. I can NEVER get the heat and wire speed right.

Have a full size steam locomotive and even better I've driven it :)

Ah damn. Found a '95 Chevy truck on craigslist on said had a broken starter bolt and selling for 800 OBO, had to move. I thought, sweet, someone who can't work on their car and needs it gone. Call them up, more than 200k miles, not sure if its a v6 or v6, 2wd, and the real kicker was all the tires are flat, and the battery is dead. Yea, not touching for more than about 300$.

It's a Chevy, you shouldn't touch that POS at all.

No, but it can act as a HU itself. Or hook it to your HU via the 3.5 jack(if your has it as an option), or skip the HU entirely and send the signal directly to the amps.

Sorry, I could have done that a long time ago but I specifically DON'T want something else to dick around with. I even had an aux in adapter and gave it away.

Without a HU I wouldn't have any sort of processing, which is not cool at all.

It's either a v6 or a v6. Could be any of them

helped my friend do the evry mod on his tdi beetle last night.. very surprised with the results. pours smoke pretty nice :morepower1:

Pouring smoke under boost means he's not doing it right. Smoke does not mean power.

i think it just has something to do with how the mod works.. once the boost builds up enough it stops smoking. in a very nonscientific test we measured a 0-60mph time of ~10sec, my friend said it was closer to 13-14 before.

the mod consist of bridging a potentiometer across 2 pins on the fuel harness.

here's something from a tdi forum

"...what is happening is that the 10-pin connector (joining the main wire from the ECU to the Injection Pump) is being hot-wired into producing a different voltage, which alters or magnifies the ECU's signal in a similar manner that a Tuning Box does. This increases the amount of fuel the injection pump pushes and advances the timing..."

You probably trick the engine into thinking it gets more air that it actually getting. Stupid mod and no way it will shave 3-4 sec off the 0-60 time. It will overfuel whenever he's off-boost. Hello high EGTs.

Retune, bigger injectors nozzles, bigger intercooler (stock one is a joke) and bigger exhaust for starters. Now that's how you would go about modding a TDI, not with a resistor.

Narrowed it down. Looking for a 28hp Minneapolis. Fucking missed out on one by a few weeks :(

28minnie.jpg

For your tractor? :trippy:

Yep, amazing machines. Rated at 28hp and I've seen one exceed 3500ft lbs at 250rpm. Sometimes technology takes a step back. Plus gotta love something you have to fuel with a fire you build!

HOLY SHITE !

I'm actually not looking for a Chevy, but i'll buy anything that comes along for the right price. Not very thrilled about an unknown Chevy, and zero desire for a Dodge, but a Ford I'm fine with.

In MN a tractor like that will pull bitches. Lots and lots.

All those pistons thrusting gets their blood boiling I think. Sorry you didn't get it sean. I loved cleaning those up on the farm. Such cool machines.

Only a single piston.

Not after she gets on board.

What he said. Not to mention black smoke (aka soot) is toxic to the lungs and the environment.

Except when it comes from a steam tractor :P
