Good point. F1 budgets would allow them to do a TON of research on optimizing it as well.

I don't think it would work for them. They need the air flowing over the car for down force. F1 is all about controlling down force. That's what gives them the control they have. If you're stalling the air, you are decreasing the down force which will help top speed, but when you go to take a turn at 150mph, you are dead meat.

Do you guys remember, there was a thing that added a lot of down force to F1, but was banned. I can't remember where I watched it, Discovery maybe. It was placed under the car by one of the teams and they won many times in a row. They didn't want to share the secret so it was banned.

But trains and planes definitely should dimples...

I vaguely remember something about that. Lots of things banned in F1 though.

I don't really see how the dimples could be banned, in particular in all racing. You'd think someone would do it if it truly helped. As stated efficiency is a separate problem from downforce so those engineering tasks should be independent.

No no, I am not talking about dimples. It was like a thick black mat under the car that created more downforce.

no doubt. If the dimples worked as well as it's advertised it would be used in so many more aplications. Companies would definately make dimpled trucks, trains, airplance etc, especially considering all the good "going green" press it would give them.

Either their data is flat out wrong, there is something else going on that changed the mpg, or the dimples create some horrible uncontrollable problem that makes them worthless no matter the savings.

Building Lego Pirate ship with my daughter this morning. You guys with sons are lucky. She is kicking its ass though, with very little help.

J, we are lucky no matter the sex.

Lucky that they are more into Lego's. She started the same ship like a year ago. :P

My wife wants to buy our son a stove and stuff to play cook with for Christmas. I had one and think I almost turned out okay, so perhaps he can to.

Based on the photos and home movies I've seen its a wonder I've made it this far

When it comes to the Baja 1000, simply crossing the finish line is reason enough to bust out the champagne. Ford has announced that its 2011 F-150 Ecoboost race truck has managed to cover the entire 1,061 mile course in 38 hours and 20 minutes. According to FoMoCo, the truck put up with some of the most grueling terrain on the planet – racing through temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. More impressively, as you may recall, this particular 3.5-liter V6 engine entered the cross-country rally with the equivalent of 10 years of abuse on the clock. The very same lump went through extensive endurance testing at the Cleveland Engine Plant before being bolted into an F-150 that was used as a log skidder in Oregon.

Finally, the same engine drove around a NASCAR track at full speed while towing 11,300 pounds. Ford then unbolted the engine and plopped it into the race machine you see above – bone stock and without so much as a rebuild. With 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, the EcoBoost was more than powerful enough to pull the Baja F-150 across the line. Click past the jump for the full press release.

The car is in Michigan, I haven't even seen it yet. Hard to have more pictures. :P It won't be here for a couple weeks. My company's lease company is doing the paperwork today though.

And I do have more pictures of the car, but the guy at the dealership who is in charge of pictures REALLY, REALLY sucks. The one I posted is shit and the rest are worse. When it arrives I will do the car justice.
