hmm-did-chrysler-release-2012-dodge-magnum-photos-yetopt.jpg

Behold, the 2012 Dodge Durango...or Magnum...or whatever the're going to call it

Interesting change in body work style. But it is still a Chrysler.

If they made that or the new Cherokee in an SRT8 and released it in the next month or so I may bite. Work lease would easily cover it, although 09 550i's are getting cheap thanks to the new body style :)

hmm so save $113 (shipping/price differences) for an i5-430m instead of an i5-450m?

and comparing it to the dell...

$46 more for an i5 Gateway over an i3 Dell

Kent: Uh, Mr. Burns, people are calling this a meltdown.

Burns: [laughs] Oh, meltdown. It's one of those annoying buzzwords. We prefer

to call it an unrequested fission surplus.

My old laptop was a Gateway and it lasted 9 years. It was a $3K laptop when new. I had lots of small issues for the last year, so I decided to get a new one and got a NV5468 at the Shack for $385. I love it. Super light, quiet, fast, and never gets hot. My old one was a P4 and ran hot as hell all the time, the fans never shut off and it would suck the battery dry in an hour. With this one, I can let it go for almost 8 hours before I have to plug it in.

I use it for a lot of web surfing, Microsoft Office work, multitasking. I may have to run solidworks (3D Modeling program) but I'll probably be using the school computers for that.

Really my computer has been able to handle anything I need but I'm just having a lot of little problems, and I think its because of the juice that got spilled under it. It now just kind of freezes up for a little bit and when I leave it alone for a while it takes a long time to get going again. Start up and Shut down are taking entirely too long. When I'm watching a youtube video and change the volume it pops up the volume on screen but doesn't change for a while then (if I hit the button multiple times) turns up all those clicks very quickly... etc.... you get the picture.

Also the screen "lid" is messed up and it still does that "memory has changed" thing every couple of bootloads...

Not too sure on the 3d program, but as far as the other stuff, the i3 would be fine. Admittedly I like to get the biggest and the best when I buy something, so I would jump on an i7, but if cost is an issue, the i3 will be enough. As was mentioned, plenty of RAM. But do some looking. Sometimes when you build a rig it costs more to get the RAM installed by the mfg then it does to get more of your own.

I recall you have a Dell. My experiences with them of late has been pretty bad. We have several Dell Desktops at the shop, and we have been repairing and replacing them constantly. I bought a Dell desktop a couple years ago, and it rattled. i couldn't figure out why. I couldn't get my card reader to read my memory cards most of the time, then one day i pushed a little too hard (because i was pissed) and the reader fell back into the machine. when I pulled open the case i found my noise and my problem. The reader was never screwed in, and the ribbon wasn't plugged into it well at all, causing intermittent contact. But, we had one at the shop a few years back that lasted about 7 years (no problems there) and a co-worker bought one a year later that lasted 7 as well. So i don't know, maybe their quality has recently gone down hill.

I have had nothing but luck with HP. I am currently on a 3 or 4 year old HP laptop and it still does damn well for most games, internet, etc. The DVD burner really sucks, though. I also have 2 HP desktops, 1 is 10 years old (no shit) and the other is about 5. No problems.

Just my opinions and experiences. Look at NewEgg and Tiger Direct for some killer deals. I have dealt with both and had great service and experiences.

I honestly think the MT tires are not so awesome. They look kinda cool, but they alse make me think of the truck version of a carbon fiber wing on a primer color civic.

Some M/T tires work great in the slop, but suck on rocks and they're loud as hell on the highway

Some M/T tires work adequately in the slop, but are great on rocks and they're loud as hell on the highway

Some M/T tires work great in the slop, great on rocks and you wouldn't even think of driving them on the highway

Depends on the tire; there are tons and tons of customer reviews and magazine tests you can find via Google or by word of mouth with local trail riders

My bias Ply Super Swampers sing like crazy goin' down the highway.

lol, yep left off a k or moved the digits there a bit

Amusingly, I have owned smaller hdd's than that though

I had a tandy 1000, and if you count it a comadore.

I had a TI-99. the funny thing is I have a TI-99 emulator downloaded on my work computer. I still love playing "TI Invaders" and "Hunt the Wampus" among others.

I just ordered a new HP. Both the wife and I had their laptops. Both are bad due to us. One the cord got broken off in the power supply (drunken night in vegas) other one I rolled over and it fell off the bed while I was asleep and fucked up the power supply. It was either 300-600 for new power supply for one or under 800 for a brand new one with 4GB RAM and 500 GB HDD and blue ray. To me it was a no brainer.

I just gotta get enough charge on mine to power it up, pull all my old shit off of there and get it going.

hell even something like this Asus would work; after you manually upgrade the RAM to 4GB, natch.

I am here to second pengs info any of the icore would rock your socks off I'm sure. Just get 64 bit 7 and plenty of ram. Also I want to say Asus makes a nice notebook with verry little bloat ware.

I'm diggin this one (different than the ones you posted) on everything except for the battery life

Can also get an Dell Inspiron 15R for $500. Only difference is an i3 instead of an i5 and the router only supports g/n not b/g/n (which shouldn't be a big deal)

MK I really hate Dell's build quality. I know they are cost champs but my wife has gone through 2 in 5 years and she babies the crap out of them. The Dell she has now is ok. We only buy her laptops from them because she gets a direct credit to them from her school. The only other person I know who buys dell also buys the cover everything waranty as then if it breaks, new one shipped out ASAP. It costs him a good chunk of change, but it means his small buisness can be back up and running fast.

Just know that with dell you might be buying a disposable laptop. The wife's current one is ok, but for what we spent I think she could have got something much better if it was our money.... and next time in fact I think we will just pay full price from somewhere else as her school credit is only so much and it really sucks getting a new machine every 2-3 years.

What the laptop does...

You spilled something on it, right? Looks like it may have gotten into the memory slots. I would jerk the RAM and clean the terminals with isopropal alcohol.

Found a guide to disassembling the laptop. Will definitely crack it open and clean it when I get home. I'll probably spend some cash to upgrade the RAM and throw in a fresh install. Maybe, even if it works, I can still get a new laptop and give my dad this one (he's been wanting one to take to the deer lease, etc...) :P

I'd fix it before spending money on ram. Could be more terminal than a clean.

And I'll second/third the fuck Dell. Mine has been a serious POS.
