Looking to buy a new tv. My 65 is dying a pretty quick death. I'm looking for about 60" around $2000. My living room has lots of natural light and causes glare on my current tv.

Anybody researched or have experience that they can lend some insight as to what to look for?

Temp phone pic part way through the install. Had to stop as I need a brake line extension and throttle cable. The white zip ties are temporary as I'll obviously buy some black ones. Ape hangin'!

I wonder if there are any Android tablets that can get digital line out. I know the ipad can do it no problem, but screw apple.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point. You could just have a 3mm jack connection on dash with a rocker switch for remote turn on going to some minidsps!

In LCD I have been extremely happy with Sharp. Price/performance they do really well.

I looked at an aquas last night at Sears but I really don't know im looking for.

Oh I have blinds but still gets glare. Same goes for the lamps at night.

I agree with the lighting, and Panny being a nice TV.

Must have darkness/light control for big TVs. We had special blinds made for our living room so we could darken the room. I prefer plasma, but if lighting is a concern then steer clear of glass faced plasmas.

Panny Viera and Samsung TVs are really extremely reliable (I have a buddy who fixes TVs, and he recommends Panny and Sammy) and have fantastic pictures. Look for beefy refresh rates (400Hz or better if you are looking at LCD/LED, but plasma refresh rates are just a sales pitch as they do not refresh), and at that size at least a 1080p.

I've got a ~4-5yr old Sharp Aquos thats been good to me, the in laws bought a 60"? Sharp Aquos last thanksgiving on black Friday that has been good to them.

Ours is the Viera plasma with the 3d option, and though I think the 3d part is a waste (at least currently) it has tons of contrast, sharp, and haven't had any dead pixels or any parts replaced.

Previous to it we had one of the first LG plasmas, and it was nothing but problems. Replacing boards every six months kinda deal.

LG is such a crap shoot in general. I love my washing machine from them with a direct drive etc etc, but they seem to have a lot of issues. I think they maybe spread themselves too thin over too many fronts.

Definitely mixed. I had a friend who had numerous LG products including a tv, and had zero problems. One thing I learned is the specific model we got was known to be problematic after a year or so of usage.

Speaking of appliances. Our Bosch fridge sorta sucks. Less than two years old, and some valve for the water and ice maker went out already. Ice make gets jammed often, so you'll end up with five ice cubes, open it up, and the entire tray is fucking empty. Then when it does actually make ice it's not very much. If the fridge door is open for more than 30 seconds then it has an obnoxious alarm that goes off.

The Bosch stove seems to be fine, but then again I'd be content with a camping stove.

Plasma used to be not as good for higher light applications. I think those days have kind of passed.

I just don't think you can get a quality 60+ in plasma for the same VALUE that you can get an LCD. If it is a media room that you will watch movies on and really care about supreme detail spend the cash on a high end plasma and get appropriate window treatments. If you are not going to get theater friendly treatments, then a high quality LCD will be less expensive and you won't be able to see the extreme detail durring glare filled moments anyway.

Some screens have a fantastic anti glare coating now too....

If you play games it is a little more complex of a decision in my mind, but the premise is the same. If the environment won't let you make the most of extreme detail, then spending extra bucks for it is kind of a waste.

We have a 110" projector in our media room if we watched a movie.

This is just for the living room. It's replacing a 65" mitzubishi dlp. Pretty much anything will be better.

Replacing bulbs in DLPs is cheap. Is it a bulb issue?

I've replaced the bulb 3 times in 5 years. Now the pixels are dying. Started with one about 3 weeks ago, now several dozen are gone. Were having house sitters coming to watch the baby and house while were in vacation. We want to replace it before we leave.
