I seriously doubt the meat was the problem...although I have to admit that I come from the other spectra. I eat extremely balanced and more than 2x what anyone else I know eats and tip the scales at about 205 atm. Being 6'7 though that doesn't leave a lot of meat behind.

I commend your effort and interest. I've posted some of my dietary comments before on the site and think you've chosen a good location to discuss them. There are a variety of super well rounded individuals in the hop with viewpoints that you can utliize by choosing which YOUR body responds to. Sure it's hard to measure because nothing will come quickly and actually stay, but some diligence and a change WILL bring about measurable results.

I would encourage you to change your thoughts a little bit. Instead of making weight loss your primary goal, make being healthy your primary goal. It will put a positive spin on what is really important instead of letting societal rules determine what you need. In your reply you basically stated that you are trying to avoid the grave, but came to the conclusion that weight is the issue. It isn't, but it is a by product of the issue. Time to address the issue. And although the net result is the same to the scale perhaps, the pyschy and gains you get from really chasing what you need is much healthier. It will also keep the losses promised and realized by diets that are only very temporary solutions at the wayside. And those are never healthy in the long or short term.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I am not saying replacing the meat is what did it. I'd be willing to bet it was the drinking 5 days a week and eating a lot of fast food. I was also smoking almost a pack of cigarettes a day, and I'm down to one a week. I never used to eat breakfast, and I would eat a lot of food right before bed. Basically everything that I could do wrong I was. At my weight what I have lost isn't that much as far as percentage goes but I already feel much better. I can't wait to start exercising at the gym again which is hard at my current weight. I have been swimming about an hour a day which I can do without risking injury.

Number 1 rule in life is do what is working.

Number 2 is to look back and learn and adjust.

Keep doing what you are doing, but with the spin on improving it and you are on the right path.

Hey, you didn't respond to my long anti-chicken post. I thought that would rile a feather or two.

My main concern is making sure it is something that I can continue for the rest of my life. The last thing I want is to fall back into my old habits. I made an appointment with a nutritionist for next week, just to see what they have to say.

Sean if you had a crock pot with temperature controll would you still hate it?

MIL has one that has a temperature control on it. I doubt she cares but it might interest me.

I do, it's called an oven and some ceramic coated cast cookware. You can set my oven down to 80deg F. Huge decision maker in the oven choice, but not for slow cooking. That is done outside on the smoker.

My oven doesnt have a setting that cold. I also get nervous leaving that on while I am not home. I suppose it is a silly thing to think the crock pot is safer to leave on. It is just kind of how I was raised.

If you need to lose weight and want a diet I can help. I know jack shit about this from a scientific perspective, but understand people enough to make it work. Of course, step one is to write down everything you eat for the next month. Then we can discuss.

I can provide that tomorrow, I have been tracking my eating for the last ~2 months. I'm down ~65 lbs in that same time span, but I would like to see if I can do anything better.

Congrats on the weight loss. I wanted to be SSAs biggest looser. If I dont stop having burger king for breakfast I will get my ass whipped!

Again, congrats man.

Nice work! Along with your diet I'd like to understand your goals. Weight alone is only a subset.

And again, don't look at me as a nutritionalist or anything other than a very perceptive world traveler with a tongue for food and a never satiated desire to eat.

Quick question if you guys happen to know. Dont want to bother aaron if i dont need to.

Got my recon for my bro's icon today. I don't see any Glue. Should it have came with some or do i order that myself? if so what should i get?

You can always bother me. That's why I am here or near here, nearly round the clock. ;) But yes, it does not come with glue, you can get CA Glue or a 5-min epoxy.

I hate personal trainers and nutritionists because most of the time they are either blatantly wrong or like sean said, make you focus on the wrong goals. Being healthy gets you weight loss in your situation. Weight loss in no way makes you healthy.

As for chicken, sean is 100% correct. It is a crap bird. Little to no value in it. People who truely LOVE chicken, especially the breast are usually the most unhealthy people I know. You also have to keep in mind that lean beef is just as lean as chicken. Especially when you count how much renders out.

And the ONLY reason to consider reasonable amounts of fat an issue is if you have a specific medical reason to, or you really need to augment your calories for some specific short term goal etc etc.

As for my own cooking. I do very little anymore, and most of it is steamed veggies or boiled/baked chicken. As breakfast is usually fruit and a bowl of oatmeal/cereal, lunch is packed for work, and dinner is usually rushed or eaten at my desk.

You really need to switch proteins. Chicken is the LAST animal anyone should ever eat.

Okay, that and turkey, not sure which is worse but I try to avoid them at all costs.

I am limited on time and range due to the amount of protein need to take in to maintain, and I can only eat so much tuna. ;)

I'll probably comment on a lot of other things, but I'm glad you like swimming because its awesome for your body. I 95% rehabilitated a bummed shoulder while actually getting up to a mile of swimming. I lived with the bad shoudl for years and once I started swimming it healed very quickly.

Oh, and it is not an excuse for me, if I had a live-in piece of arse, things would be a little different. ;)

But you have a specific goal above and beyond being healthy. So "empty" protein isnt so empty. Same with whey or gemma or any other protein source. They are supplemental to a goal aside from being healthy and fit.

If this was a fitness forum, we could post progress pictures, but don't need that stuff being spread on the net under the wrong pretense.

Ant!

Also if your limiting how much tuna you eat because the mercury content then look up how selenium plays a role.

Was not limiting it due to that, just due to only ok with eating 5 cans a week or so.

Yeah it gets pretty old pretty fast. I try and rotate between tuna and sardines.

Even in fitnes forums I don't post self images. It is just too much of a liability.
