For what I'd be using it for, a laptop is needed. I also read that using ssd hard drives can cut back on power consumption, but that's something I still have to research to see if the extra cost is worth it.

SSD is faster and uses less power since it has no moving parts.

Missed that. SSD FTW as long as you can afford it. Try not to get smaller than the ~245gig units though. The smaller the SSD the less ideal of a situation for speed. There is some talk that mega high capacity SSD's may be slower..... but it's speculation from what I read... and since I wanted to make it nose bleed fast I went with two 256 in a raid. Almost for the same price as the current speed king in the same size.

Alright Matt2, Stefan here is what I've come up with.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z370 13" - 2nd gen i5, 4gb memory, intergrated graphics, 60gb ssd 4.4 lbs, $450

Asus U36E-RAL7 14" - 2nd gen i7, 8gb memory, integrated graphics, 4.94 lbs, $500

Asus U36SD 13" - 2nd gen i5, 4 gb memory, NVIDIA GT520M, 3.66 lbs, $575 (no optical drive, but no big deal)

The first is my "original". It's the cheapest, doesn't look as good, but a solid all around performer. The others do not have SSD.

The second is great with the i7 and memory, Its just got a bigger screen and more weight

I love the last one because it is lighter, looks the best, has it's own graphics card and is the lightest, but of course it is more expensive. I can also just drop another 4gb stick to get to 8gb and it also has a huge battery.

My room mate may donate a 64 gig SSD just for the OS. That way if one of the others burn I won't cry when re-installing.

I would never go without an optical drive..... but if you have a desktop, then maybe you can network those as a pretend optical.

What are the HDs on them? I like SSD if you are not going to store a lot of media. More than a GFX card or ram it will speed up your OS and apps.

I haven't paid any attention to comp hardware for the last five years, so one setup verse another isn't something I have input on, other then the obvious things.

Its funny because I never use my cd drive on the desktop, but for the laptop ill need one.

You won't get tracking with priority mail. Express shipments offer Tracking.

I'm referring to tracking as in what you would expect when using UPS/Fedex...

Express Mail will give you this exact type of tracking info.

Most people do not use Express because it's base price is more than Priority but after factoring in extra services, domestically, Express is just a hair more.

When shipping internationally, Express or GXG is highly recommended.

I can ship something to New Zealand using GXG and it be delivered within 2-3 days guaranteed.

I haven't used GXG yet so i can't comment on it's tracking capability.

Priority mail tracking works. Even for packages sent from here to the US and it works through the USPS website.

Sooo close to finishing up the BMW.

Wired up everything related to the air-ride since I had to clean up those wires too and the front suspension doesn't work. Rear works fine, compressor works, solenoid valves are clicking and I can raise the front suspension with my compressor. So it's something between the solenoid valves and the air tank.

I can't wait to be done with it and install my gauges.
