Bracing has yielded to be more efficient in aiding with rigidity versus laminating sheets. There was a white paper on Adire's site many moons ago.

For those who build boxes, would the above be stronger if the red colored panels were in between the green colored panels?

imo it depends how the box is going to sit.

I like to do it where gravity is pushing down on a solid piece, such as the way you have it drawn if its upright

Well the side with the multiple baffles is for the driver mounting, whether that's facing up, down, back, etc, I believe is immaterial.

I just say that because those baffles are heavy and so is the sub, plus gravity is always acting compared to the amount of time its playing

So that calc is going to be the first to do that?

I don't know how many online calculators do it, but I'm sure any decent programs for building enclosures does it, at least it should.

I guess i meant the first free calc :D

Definitely makes sense, verse having a large panel with no support in the center.

I was just curious if the orientation on having the edges overlap for cutouts was a big deal or not.

To be I honest I haven't look at many online calculators, so I don't know. :P

I know the12volt has a bunch of calcs, but they don't provide the port displacement or any way to work it in. I think the torres calculator (exe) does it.

Oh and I forgot to use wax or any release agent between the tape and fiberglass. :suicide-santa:

Next time, use green tape. It has a wax layer on top. Combined with the styrene (I assume you're using polyester resin), it should separate with no issue.

Stefan

A few pages back (read it on the phone on the plane) you referenced I said to keep the drivers on a plane. You left out the context of my statement though. As with all car audio installations compromises are a part of the game and that may not be the ugliest one. At the same time, neither will blocking part of your mid be so don't stress. I would look into some treatments for the bottom of your dash though as they can have surprisingly positive influences.

I remembered bits and pieces, and didn't go back to find it. I didn't think it was going to be anything drastic, but it's always nice to see what everyone else thinks. I mounted the new baffles and positioning is clear of everything except my leg, perhaps I'll saw my leg off for that nth degree.

I appreciate all the reading and responding you take on. :P

What I would give for that. Thunderstorms with the window open are nice here.

I used three strips of plumbers tape, bottom, top, inner side. I drilled a hole through the fiberglass base, and a little bit into the baffle, then I ran a drywall screw from the bottom of the fiberglass base up through a hole in the plumbers tape, and a screw through another hole on the plumbers tape into the baffle. Since the screw is coming from the wrong side it doesn't get tight, has a little play, but your able to bend and twist the baffle into any position.Once I found what I liked, I pulled it out, hot glued dowels in, and remove plumbers tape that was in the way. I should remove the rest so it doesn't rattle when the speakers are installed.

I haven't decided if I'm just going to wrap the fabric over everything as normal, or fill with expanding foam, sand to shape, and glass. Like this:

looks great

i tried the expandable foam thing in my kicks.. total pain in the ass.

same here, I used the stuff in the can and it was horrid, would not sand, never fully cured.

It would need to be something with very little bubbles in it..

UNFUCKING REAL.... I just got off work after tatting 11 hrs solid and my stupid wife is pissed bc I didn't call her to let her know I would be late. UNFUCKING REAL. How the fuck can I waste 3/4's of my life working to support a family and be in the wrong? UNFUCKING REAL. :jon:

What you provide the ink collectors in invaluable bro. Just keep slaving away and remember that in the end it is for the greater good. Women have a tenancy to bitch for little to no fucking reason at all. Just remember in the end when it comes to the wifey the juice is worth the squeeze.

Additionally, I will FINALLY be getting the remainder of my travel monies off my last deployment. This will be funding me to come for a visit at the end of the month (hopefully). With the wifey starting re-class, and her birthday being the 18th of February, the beginning of the month will be quite simple to slip away for a while. I'm really looking forward to sitting in the ink chair and getting to bullshit with you. The work you and your brother were gracious enough to do for myself and my unit is not forgotten and if anything very VERY appreciated and loved by many. You are one hell of tatter and one hell of a stand up guy. Just remember that and forget the minor drama. holding on to that kind of stuff is just not worth your time, or efforts. Bad emotions turn into distaste which evolve into hatred and in the short time we have on earth its just not worth it.

J

Thanks for the insight Jordan. I appreciate you talking me down. I know its a little thing but shit has seemed to snowball on me as of late. The stress is killing me.

The invite is always open whenever you can make it.

I appreciate it man. I am glad my insight could be of some use. Sorry if my rambling was of little to no sense. I don't always type the best after I've been hitting the bottle.

Stuff snowballs, but you have to realize then its starting to, and throw it away at someone else so it doesn't effect you anymore.

"Just remember in the end when it comes to the wifey the juice is worth the squeeze." I love this quote <3 and will be stealing it with your permission.:eek5wavey:

Is a motto I need and will adopt.

My word of the yr is "compassion". < says with grumbly voice.

Glad the quote hit home. Feel free to use it at will. And Jared compassion isn't just a word man. Its a mindset.

J

Did you mask off the areas you didn't want it to spread with cardboard / art paper?

I've used it before and it did take a while to full cure, it helped to spray a little, wait, spray more. I did end up with a few bubbles in the inside, luckily they didn't matter, and sanding to shape was easy.

I just need to find out if polyester based resin will eat the foam and turn it into a goop, or if I should use epoxy based, or vice versa.

I usually aim to be able to laminate all the needed pieces and then attach them easily. For your example You either need very long screws to attach the baffle or drill long countersink holes if you laminate first.
