What a week this has turned into. It all started monday when I ended up at the denists getting a root canel.$$$ Then the W's tire blew and she needed a new set anyway's before winter. $$$ Then my MFing desktop motherboard died yesterday.$$$

To top it all off, half my face still hurts 4 days after getting the root canel. I am eating 8 penicillin a day, which my stomach doesn't care for either.

I'd sad a pretty lousy week.

The cpu fan went out on my fathers comp a few months ago. I thought I'd just order another fan but it was built into the heatsink. So order another heatsink and figure I can just pop the old one off and pop the new one on.

Well the fucker mounted from the backside... Had to pull everything out, ugh. It's ironic how much I use to love computers and now one could almost say I despise them. (working on them, that is. Or the occasional family member going "hey you know computer stuff, fix my comp")

I can't believe how much change's with computer's over the course of a few years. I have owned a HP the last two computer's so figured I would buy another one of those.

The biggest thing that's odd is that the guy at the store tells me I need to buy the programing (office home and student). That the computer doesn't come with any programs on it anymore.

The one I am looking at has a Phenom 960T Quad-core, has 8GB RAM and 1.5TB hard drive. Then I would buy the Office home and student and Norton for stater's.

I am not computer savy in an way so what do you guy's think?

Don't buy brick and mortar or HUGE company product. What will you use the machine for?

I agree shit changes fast, therefore I don't know shit about anything new.

Only advice I can say, don't use Norton software, it's a mega pain in the ass.

And considering that is only our winning pro team this year I'll bandwagon. ROFL

LOL

I don't think we have anything here. Farm league hockey ftw?

We have plenty of that. Hell a group of my high school friends started an IHL team shortly after high school and made it to the finals. They were disbanded and disqualified before the final games started though since they didn't pay their league entry fee's and couldn't. The gene pool was shortened to as 3 from my class and the one below went straight into the NHL.

No shit? That's pretty badass.

I've had good luck with spybot search and destroy.

Biggest thing is, just don't download a bunch of random bullshit from websites, p2p networking, etc.

The computer will be used for home use. So storing pic's and music, trolling the internet and paying my bill's. I don't play online gaming or download movies.

As far as the Norton, thats what I have used before and believe it is on both laptops. I am open to suggestion though.

To be honest I don't have any anti virus software on my computer.

In the past, or for family computers I've used spybot search and destroy to get rid of a lot of shit. Worked pretty well.

There was another software that was lightweight. It had a basic installer, you never saw the thing unless you started it yourself. Once started it connected to the dev. site and downloaded updates for new virus' then started scanning locally for any matches. I can't remember the name though, I'll try to google for it and post it later.

Oh and the gui was yellow / gold, NOT norton, ringing any bells anyone? :P

Matt, as I value your opinions on the Steve Jobs, I'm surprised you hold him in such high regard, bring a Falcon guy and all.

Using Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials works just as good, and sometimes better than, most commercial AV/Firewall/Spyware program combos and they are far less resource dependent *cough* Norton *cough* McAffe *cough*. Using Chrome or Firefox with a good adblocking extension, like Adblock Plus, instead of Internet Explorer is a definite must, as are sensible browsing habits. Keeping Adobe Flash and Java up to date is also recommended, as they are readily exploitable and are routinely updated to patch security holes; same goes for Windows Updates.

Yesterday I was watching a show on sheep dogs, my cat was glued to the tv! I stood in front of him and he'd stick his neck out to the side to see around me. Awesomeness.

Fuck ipods and apple.

After the new hdd and battery, my ipod started freezing again when it's in the car. I hope I can get it working again without spending money and selling it so I can get a different version, maybe with better results.

Is it too much to ask to have a bit more storage room instead of writing cd's with mp3's ?

What iPod do you have? If you get a new one how much storage do you need?

4th gen, 20GB. It's more than enough storage but horrible reliability. I could do well with 4GB of storage, as long as it will play without hiccups.

My phone's got 4 gigs of memory. It can take up to 8 (card).

Did I mention it was released 5 years ago?

I like the best, and for many many years Apple machines were better than PC's. It can be argued all over up and down but I could run Windows on my mac with few issues, even from a few cracked versions I had. I also was huge into CG development too. It you wanted to do 3d graphics you wanted a Mac.

My Apple provolone stayed relevant for browsing and basic functions for 5 years. My wife went through 5 laptops in that time, I only used one. I would still have it for surfing probably if it hadn't been damaged.

Today however I want a different experience, and don't want to or need to pay a premium.

I can't see myself going to a Mac platform anytime soon that's for sure. Jobs as a person and a leader made huge impact to push the industry he loved.

Apple is not Jobs. He could have ran Microsoft or anything else. In fact when he was fired from Apple he made Pixar and another company. Next was purchased and Pixar became the most influential CG company and remains there now under disney. I also like the fact jobs didn't lie much, and he didn't change his convictions. He was a Damn hot head, and that sucks.

If you look at Gates on the other side of the coin, I think gates is a real fucktard. Might he a nice guy though. His new piaus charity is a great example. It really is just modern forms of buying indulgences as it were.

I thought for sure you had seen that Aaron.

Jobs reminds me a bit of your fave physicist.

Also Duran, I think I should say that I hold Jobs in a high regard. Apple just being what he did to make checks.
