Welcome to the IHoP

Recommended Posts

At least 2 weekends in October are booked with projects. And seems like all the afternoons in the next two weeks are booked with audio stuff.

I just hope the weather stays warm.

Cross your fingers. :D

Flood the IHOP with pics of the projects, just like me.

Give me a sec :P

It's only SPL work for now so not a lot of pics, just a lot of work.

I hate it when people get mad for even the smallest things.

I hate it when people get mad over people that get mad over the smallest things. :roflmao:

JK.

I don't get mad over people getting mad over the smallest things. ;)

hate ≠ mad

Stefan, since you asked, here is a pic of what I've been working on for 2 afternoons.

IMG_1408_1.jpg

FI SE 15, 1800w amp, single battery up front, it does 146.0 dbdrag style. Very little tuning time so much more to gain there hopefully. With the box sealed up it peaks at 55hz and with the current tuning it peaks at 49-50.

Goal is 147.5+, should beat the record in it's class, set by another car built by me

Did you try to play around with the phase ?

Midbass > sub-bass. And somebody else around here will confirm that :P

The other system is long gone, subs blew and no recones are available for Polk subs. So it's down to this system to defend the honor on 15-16th October. And I have to beat my 151 so lots of work ahead.

Haven't touched phase or eq at all.

Just crossover and slopes.

80hz, 18db slope. 1750hz, 18db slope. Rocking my pants off.

Try it lower, 80hz seems is pretty high. Also, less is more on slopes.

I have it at 50hz with 12db/octave slope. With the power you have the ER18's should definitely take it. Not sure if your EA4000 is identical to mine, but on mine you can't defeat the crossover, so I set it to 30hz.

Mines set low enough on the amp that's not an issue. Ill mess with the bottom once im content with the mid to tweeter XO

New steering wheel and T-handle shifter on the way.

Gotta get new plugs and wires soon, and have a BellHousing Guard fabbed up too.

J

I hope your shifter handle has a lock on it. I've seen one too many twist off while shifting hard.

Why do you need a "bellhousing guard? Are you worried about the clutch exploding? If so, you should easily be able to find an SFI scattershield for your car.

IIRC it does have a a lock for it. If not returned it shall be.

The bellhousing is chipped already........worried it might get nicked again.......AZ sucks on fixing potholes. Especially on post.

J

Damn, no idea you guys got potholes out there. You just going to weld some type of shield up or a bar?

Heat and cold makes shit (including ashpalt) expand and contract. ESPECIALLY when its basically poured over sand/sandstone.

Oddly enough it looks like there is threads for a shield already in place. Gotta put it up on jackstands/a lift and look more in depth.

you may find it easier to get your initial point with no tweet at all, so you can tell when the mids break up easier, especially if you have a hearty tweet.

ALWAYS listen to the drivers on their own first and second. First thing I do is listen to a single driver and adjust the crossover and levels to give me an idea of problems etc. Do this on multiple songs. After doing that for all drivers I start to listen in pairs and adjust the phase. Then rudimentary level setting between the driver set. Then all combinations for phase between sets. Once that is done I start to tinkle with slopes. Nail the slopes then t/a. Nail the t/a then eq. Then I revisit everything I did and go through the process many more times.

As I always tell people, expect your active setup to sound worse than passives for the first few weeks. And don't run a processor you can't control from up front. 3 way is an order of magnitude more involved than 2. Sure you can pull short cuts, but for god's sake then just take the passive shortcut.

But seriously I can't re-iterate more strongly that you should listen to every driver on its own. (call subs "one" driver)

Too early for high volume stuff then. Please listen to each driver on its own first and nail down the initial settings before getting to that step. That comes after my whole list. ie, don't do any settings at high volume but go back and compensate later.
