I REALLY wanted a diesel Q7 but the v12 version isn't coming to the us. :(

Over the MB? MB has a massive edge style wise IMO

Me thinks you should go drive a Q7. WOW.

audi design is king right now. It's too bad they overcharge for it. like WAY overcharge.

Diesel cars are another rarity here. Less dissapointed about that one. Great mileage etc, but the noise and power delivery are deal breakers.

I love the noise. On both the Jeep (straight exhaust now) and the 4bt powered backhoe.

U need to take a ride in a tri golf or better yet a blue tech Benz.

And the giddy up in those is neutered bad. Chip them to unlock unlock their balls and the power is wild. We don't use diesel because of politics, nothing else.

Some people in Australia tested a new 3.0 v6 diesel Grand Cherokee (with a mild tune) against a 5.7 hemi (I think) and in a 1/4 mile race the diesel was faster.

Impossible to beat the sound of an old Detroit Diesel working. :)

Guess I need to drive more diesels. Driven a Jetta TDI and it sounded like a tractor. I agree torque>hp, but in that car the delivery wasn't at all smooth. It only made power on the low end and was out of juice around 4k. Shouldn't base my assumption on the few diesels I've driven/ridden in though.

Is the added weight at the front end not an issue? The engine blocks on a diesel are much heavier and I've always been under the assumption it took away from the handling unless the car was specifically designed around the diesel platform.

Doh, it's a diesel, normal to run out of steam at 4k. And you might have gotten one with stuck turbo vanes, which will either kill the top end or kill the low end.

IIRC my diesel is as heavy as the 4.0 I6, makes the same torque, gets better mileage.

Never heard one except in video clips but even so it's a wet dream.

LOL @ R32 prices....

LOL!

MK4 Golf ?

Typical, few made and the price skyrocketed after they stopped making them.

Diesel is FTW in my book. Pluss you can just run it on your old fry daddy oil, extra kerosene, or some hydrolic fluid.

Versitile and eco friendly. Don't mind the black smoke, it's good for you.

I believe they're nice cars, I just don't care for the styling.

Speed/fun to drive: You decide

Merc: 510hp @ 6800rpm, 465 lb-ft @ 5200, 14mpg, weight 5100lb

Audi: 500hp @ 3750rpm, 738lb-ft @ 1750, 21mpg, weight 5200lb

0-60 nearly identical

I know we spoke about TQ >> Hp so talk me back out of it.

Oh, young grasshopper you are confused. The noise on Euro diesels is not any different than the gas. In fact some gas engines are louder and crappier sounding. As for power delivery I am astonished you'd bring that up as a weakness being it is the strength of a diesel. Torque >>> HP always.

I know some Formula 1 and NHRA engineers that will strongly disagree with you.

So I left off in the street.

Diesels don't have a big rpm range like gas engines, so you can't say that because it ran out of juice at 4k, 4k is probably near red line lol. Our diesel pick up would fucking haul at 1500, 2000rpm.

I would think all diesel vehicles are designed to deal with the additional weight, I don't see how they couldn't be...

You are jaded by the your diesel truck experience. Not all diesels are designed to pull stumps. Hell the Audi R10s rev up to 7K. Granted, by design they will always make more torque than HP, peaks that is, but the direct injection gasoline engines are beginning to pick up steam and reaping some of the benefits of the diesel design. The one's I've heard have also been noisier than the European diesels.

And amusingly they sound more like a diesel than the diesels do now too. Its funny. I was with my boss in a rental Audi in Germany and we had both determined it was a diesel until we got out to fill it up with gas.

Fr those with droids how do you copy text from a window to paste it elsewhere. Haven't figure out how to embed an image in a post since I can't grab its location

Hold your finger on it and it will magnify the text and give you options.

How the fuck is it that you are helping :)

Thanks.

How about to get the address of an image which is really what I am trying to do.

*nevermind it works. Fuck me

You should drive one. There is a reason that they are currently benchmarking them at both Mercedes and BMW.

I'm not torn, lol. Hate the girll. Part of it has to do with the people who typically drive them. Clouds my judgement I guess. I'm surprised as hell by those weight figures. What can I say, I was wrong about diesels. Next time I'm bringing cars back from an auction and we get a diesel I'll give it another chance
