anyone have a wild guess of how to compare the strength of plywood to sheet steel? Basically, 1/4" ply is comparable to XX gauge steel, 1/2" ply is comparable to XX gauge steel, and so on and so on?

Ie, do you want to balance or just spin?

I don't mind making myself balance, but I could see myself more apt to use it if I can just jump on and go. The reason for being able to have a bike I can take off, is so on days I want to ride outside, or on some of the 'trails' out on base I can take it out. Am I a big time rider? NO. It's actually be about 8 years since I have ridden a bike more than 500 feet. When I do go outside to ride, I am not looking to be going all out on the mountains or the really rough trails by any means, but I will not be on the asphalt only.

I am trying to keep this at a decent price. I know the W will push for me to go cheap as hell for now (aka 100 dollar walmart bike) but if I can find something great at a cheap price to do both indoors and out I am all for it.

J

Lol $100, you can't buy a used pos for that. About where trainers start, but go easily up to near $1k. If you want skill and balance get a roller, others a simple fluid damped is fine for a start. And with ALL exercise equipment PLEASE buy used.

100 would be for a road/trail pos bike. A lot more if it was soley indoors.

I don't 'need' high performance.

So the wife bought a drink mix and used my 140 proof rum. Needless to say it did not take much to make her loopy. :)

No one does, comfort is ALWAYS step one. If you aren't comfortable you won't ride.

Even decent bikes from the mid-80's fetch $200+ though, so $100 just isn't realistic.
